CHAPTER FIVE: Talk

1109 Words
The next morning Alex woke up early as always. His internal clock wouldn't let him sleep past six. He opened his eyes laying there for a minute to adjust. Then he remembered the night before. Vic woke up to the sound of someone yelling, "FUCKIN' HELL!" She rolled over to see none other than "The Dickhead" literally jump from the bed. "No,No,No." she just kept repeating. She remembered what happened. She just didn't want to. Alex started getting dressed as he said, "This never happened. We never talk about this ever." "Thank God! You read my mind." she responded. Vic wrapped the sheet around herself and started finding her clothes. He was already out the door. As she made her way down stairs, toward the front door she heard Maggie yell from the kitchen "Regan come have coffee, NOW!" It wasn't a request. 'f**k' she thought as she went to the kitchen. She entered to find Zach, Maggie, and Alex at the breakfast table. Vic begrudgingly sat down then took the coffee Maggie offered. Zach was smiling when he said, "Good Morning. Did you all get enough sleep." Alex scowled at his friend. Maggie responded, "You know they didn't sleep. We both heard what they were doing." Vic's face turned bright red as Alex stood. He said "I'm leaving. I'll see you later." Weeks passed neither Vic nor Alex had said a single word to each other. In fact they went out of their way to avoid each other. Zach and Maggie were the only two that knew why. People at work were starting to speculate. Some thought it was because they were threatened with termination. While most believed they were each planning the other's murder. Then there were those who didn't care as long as they weren't snapping at each other. Vic went home after another peaceful shift. Well as peaceful as the medical field can get anyway. She walked into her apartment dropping her keys in the bowl by the door. It was a small place but it suited her needs. She was exhausted from a thirty six hour shift. So she headed for the shower. She opened the closet to grab a towel noticing an unopened box of tampons. f**k when had she bought those? She grabbed her wallet and keys running to her car. As she drove to the, twenty four hour, drug store she prayed that it was a false alarm. Parking in front of the store she promised God, "I'll do anything. Please, just let it be negative." She made it home with a bag full of pregnancy tests. Knowing they would be more accurate in the morning. She took a shower and went to bed. Alex woke up from another nightmare. Climbing out of bed he walked to the kitchen for a glass of water. As he stood by the sink drinking it. He tried to remember a time he hadn't had a nightmare. They had become a nightly occurrence since he came home. Except for the night of Zach's party. That was a fluke though. There was no way it had anything to do with Vic. She's the enemy. Though, he couldn't seem to forget that night. The way she moved beneath him. The sounds she made. She was so responsive to him. Alex shook his head. Putting the glass in the sink. He decided he needed to go back to bed. The lack of sleep was obviously making him crazy. Vic woke up from yet another wet dream. They had been occurring on and off since Zach's birthday. It was Really Pissing her off. So what if it was the best s*x ever. So what if he had the body of a god. They hate each other. Suddenly remembering her possible predicament. She jumped out of the bed and ran to the bathroom. After peeing on all of the sticks she waited. It took fifteen minutes for her to get up the courage to look at them. "Mother...Fucking...Son of... a b***h!" she said as she read each one. Not one of them was negative. What was she supposed to do now. She threw away all of the packages. Walking into the living room on auto pilot. She picked up her phone to call Maggie. Maggie picked up on the third ring. "Hey, Regan what's up?" Maggie asked. Vic was on the verge of tears when she answered, "I'm pregnant. It's Alex's." she almost whispered. Maggie was in shock. She knew this was not something they could talk about over the phone. "I'll be there in thirty minutes." Maggie said as she hung up. True to her word Maggie showed up thirty minutes later. Vic let her in, silently leading her to the kitchen. There on the small, two person, table was a towel underneath four positive pregnancy tests. Maggie sat down across from Vic who was crying. "What do I do?" Vic asked. Maggie was good with advice. That's why she and Vic were such good friends. "You talk to Alex. Then the two of you figure this out." Maggie said. "How? I mean we haven't exactly spoken since that night." Vic said. Maggie replied, "Well we'll just have to have dinner. I'll make sure he's there. Then the two of you can talk." Vic reluctantly agreed and Maggie called Alex. Then she called Zach. Later that evening they were all at Zach and Maggie's. Dinner was going well considering Vic and Alex weren't speaking to each other. Zach did give Vic a few odd looks because she refused to drink wine. After dinner Vic helped Maggie clear the table. As they were in the kitchen putting the dishes in the machine. Zach and Alex were in the living room talking. "So Alex did you notice Regan wasn't drinking at dinner?" Zach asked. Alex rolled his eyes before asking "Yeah, why should I care?" "No reason I guess. I just mean she's twenty nine. I don't know many women who'd turn down a glass of wine." Zach said. Alex didn't respond because he suddenly felt sick to his stomach. He had just realized what Zach was implying. Zach stood up saying he was going to see how the girls were doing. A few minutes later Vic walked into the room and sat down. Before Alex could even think of getting up. Vic said "We need to talk because I'm pregnant."
