IN LOVE WITH THE ENEMY

CHAPTER TWO: Dinner Party

Friday came and Alex was eating lunch with his friend Zach. "So are you coming? It's not going to be a big thing. Just us along with a few friends." Zach asked for the fifth time.

Zach had been Alex's friend since high school. He became an administrator at the University. "I don't know man. My arm's killing me." Alex said. He had a cast on his left arm along with more than a few cuts and bruises. "What happened with that?" Zach asked. Alex realized he hadn't told Zach about it yet.

He went into a tangent, "I was on my way back from the gym. When some asshole on his phone caused a f*****g pile up. So, I ended up with a broken arm. Then I end up at the hospital where I run into none other than "The b***h". She's apparently a Physician's Assistant go figure. Anyway the b***h has the nerve to order a M.R.I. I asked why because I didn't hit my head. She tells me I have brain damage and it's obvious. f*****g Bitch."

Zach laughed, "Well at least you proved her wrong. You did prove her wrong didn't you?" Alex glared at him saying "It's not f*****g funny man. You know I don't have brain damage." "I know, so are you coming over tomorrow night or not?" Zach asked..

Alex frowned as he said, "Yeah I'll be there but you owe me." He stood up to throw his trash away. After saying their goodbyes Alex went to his next class.

The next night Alex showed up at Zach and Maggie's. She opened the door to let him in. Instantly engulfing him in a hug. Maggie was a hugger. It was annoying to Alex but he put up with it for Zach.

"Hey, Alex how're you doing?" she asked. "I'm okay."he responded. When Zach called from the living room "Alex is that you?" "Yes! Baby it's Alex." Maggie yelled back. Alex nodded to her then walked through the entryway to find Zach. Him sitting on the sofa in the living room. Talking to a group of people Alex had never met.

Alex took a seat in one of the large arm chairs listening to the conversation. Zach finally introduced him to everyone pulling him in. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Maggie called from the kitchen asking Zach to get the door, "It's probably Regan. She's right on time.". Maggie yelled.

Alex was looking for an excuse to get up and walk away. So he offered to get the door. As he walked through the entryway toward the door the bell rang again. "Just a minute." he said. He opened the door to find none other than "The b***h" standing on the other side. "What are you doing here?" he asked in a gruff voice.

Vic and Maggie had worked together for the past year. Maggie worked in registration for the hospital. After several requests to come to Maggie and Zach's dinner party she finally accepted.

Per her usual she was running right on time because it was her first night off in two weeks. So when she arrived to see Alex "The Dickhead" open the door she instantly wanted to go home. She had made a promise, though, so she was going to stay.

"Maggie invited me."she replied in as polite a manner as possible. Alex so wanted to slam the door in her face but Maggie came up behind him before he could. "Regan, come on in. I'm glad you made it " Maggie said.

"Regan?" Alex asked as he closed the door. Maggie looked at him curiously asking "Do you know each other?" Vic replied, "Yes, we're in the same classes at the University." Then she looked at Alex saying, "My middle name is Regan. My name is Victoria Regan Davies." He just nodded and walked away.

They all made their way to the dinning room. As they sat down neither Zach nor Maggie missed the tension between the two. Though, they were being respectful. There were a lot of eye rolls. Along with a few glares thrown between them.

Then when everyone was going outside to sit on the patio after dinner. Maggie gave Zach a look that said "talk to your friend". So Zach pulled him aside asking, "Hey what's up with you and Regan?" Alex huffed saying "I knew this was a bad idea. The b***h gets on my nerves."

Zach was shocked Regan seemed like a really nice person. He may not have met her before but she in no way seemed like a b***h. Then it hit him "Wait a minute she's "The b***h" but you said her name was Victoria?" he asked. Alex explained, "Apparently her name is Victoria "The b***h" Regan Davies. At least it should be. Listen I'm going to head home. Let Maggie know dinner was excellent." With that Alex turned and walked to the front door. Already calling a cab.

Zach stood there stunned he had never known any one to get under Alex's skin like that. To the point that just her being there pissed him off. From what he saw it seemed that the same was true for her. He joined everyone else on the patio. The night went smoothly from there.

After everyone else left Maggie asked Zach "Baby what did he say?" Zach got a confused look on his face responding, "Remember I told you there was a woman in his class that he referred to as The b***h?" "No!" she exclaimed. "Apparently yes......She told him he was a retarded neanderthal. Then the other day she said he obviously had brain damage." Maggie couldn't stop laughing. "She ordered that M.R.I. for him. Oh my God he's The Dickhead!" she said gasping for air.
