K I A R A I had been way too up in my head since my arrival at Damon’s pack, that I had almost forgotten about my father. But when his sudden arrival was announced to me, I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. It’s been a couple of days since the welcome party the pack had hosted for me, and I had started feeling comfortable. Too comfortable. But of course, my father was able to sense that from miles away and decided to disrupt the little peace I was starting to have. He was probably checking in to ensure that the Alpha was satisfied with the ‘goods’ he’d delivered. My stomach churned with anxiety as I paced backk and forth in my bedroom. The luxurious silk gown Alice had laid out for me suddenly felt like heavy chains on my body, and I was tempted to rip it off and slip into something less constricting. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I had no idea what would happen if I defied him. If I showed even a little bit of disrespect towards the old man, his visit may turn disastrous. He had chosen the perfect time to come. When Damon was not present. He had left on a trip two nights ago, and was supposed to return back in a few days. Mustering up enough courage, I opened the door and walked outside. I walked down the hallway and made my way to the living room where I knew my father was waiting. My blood ran cold as soon as I entered the room. I stood frozen to the spot as my father's gaze raked over me, a sinister smile spreading across his face. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the new bride," he croaked out, an evil smile plastered on his lips. "It's good to see you too, father," I managed to whisper. "I can't say the same," he sneered, sitting back on the couch, looking comfortable. "I'm sure you have many things to tell me, so please cut the pleasantries." "You've changed," he noted, arching a brow. "Grown a pair of fangs, didn't you?" "Enough of the games." I couldn't stand his smug face any longer so I looked away, crossing my arms. "As you wish." He took a sip of wine. "I assume he hasn't claimed you?" I didn't answer. "Pathetic!" he sneered, shaking his head. "What do you mean?" I snapped, turning my head to glare at him. "It's been more than a week since the wedding, and yet, you're not carrying the mark of his teeth or christening the marital sheets. He does claim you, doesn't he?" My cheeks heated and I looked away. "It's none of your concern, father." "Don't smart mouth me, princess. I'm still your Alpha King, and I can destroy both of your lives with just a snap of my finger," he growled and I flinched, backing up slightly. "You had one duty, and that's to get him inside your wet folds, and have him wrapped around your fingers. But, it seems as so he finds you so undesirable that he won't even touch you. I shouldn't have let myself have hope with you. Your sister would have done the job much faster and better than you." He scoffed, looking at me as if I was dirt under his feet. Hearing my father talking about my s****l life in such a manner disgusted me. I hated the way he was speaking to me, especially knowing I was in no place to complain. "What more do you want from me, Father. I married him at your request. What we do or don't behind closed doors, is now our business, not yours. I just don’t understand why all you do is make threats. Why do you care so much if he claims me or not?" Father shook his head, and walked closer to me. "You thought that was all, huh? You thought I just wanted you two married? Oh no, darling, your role isn't over yet." I couldn't breathe. What did he mean? "I didn’t force you to marry Damon just because I want to ensure the packs will stay united. I have an entirely different plan in mind." He chuckled dryly. "You see Kiara, Damon has taken a liking to you, whether he wants to admit it or not. Which means you've been positioned perfectly. My plan needs the perfect vessel to get the next plan moving." "Why...why are you telling me this now? Why didn't you tell me before marrying me off to Damon?" "And risk you backing out or worse, be killed?" He laughed wickedly. "I'm not that stupid, child." "I wouldn't have backed out." I narrowed my eyes. "Enough, girl," he said sharply, his eyes flashing. "Damon hurt me years ago. He betrayed me in the worst way possible, and you are my way of seeking justice." "You married me off to him so you can seek vengeance?" I asked, my stomach twisting into knots. "Yes, daughter," he sneered. "And you are going to help me." "How?" I asked, the tension in the air rising. "Not now, Kiara. Not now. I only came here to keep your head in the game. Wrap him around your fingers and don’t get too attached. It would be in your best interest. And not to mention, help you save lives." "Whose lives?" "You can't fight off fate, no matter how hard you try. Just play along, honey. Trust me, I have only best interests in mind." I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. There was something he wasn't telling me, and I could feel it in the pit of my stomach. "How can I trust you, if you don't trust me enough to tell me everything." "You don't have to. Let's just say you have no choice but to believe me." Then, he turned on his heel and strode towards the door. "Remember, girl. Keep him in the palm of your hand and I'll tell you what you need to do next." With those last words, he was gone and I was left in a state of confusion. What had my life become?
