Chapter 2: Like Hell we're going back.

Trixie is screaming, Alpha Trevor has her by her foot and is dragging her back across the border back into his territory.

Like hell is he taking her, we made it this far we are not going back!

I frantically look around and see a rock large enough to do damage and I chuck it right into his face.

He steps back and covers his face dropping Trixie.

Trixie gets back on her feet and starts towards me. We both are running away from the pines and the howling Alpha. Just as his gamma and beta reach the border.

We hear him cursing and shouting to kill us. The gamma and beta laughing and lunging towards us to finish his command.

Trixie and I are determined we will never go back.

" We will not die here tonight!" I hear onyx growling in my head.

With that thought I shifted. The beta and gamma comes face to face with a snarling black wolf. Fangs bared and dripping saliva. Onyx is done, we have come too far and suffered so much at the hands of these pathetic dogs.

"It's three against one you stupid bitch." I heard one of them say.

"This is going to be easy" the other one laughed like a creep.

"Let's kill her and drag the other one back for some new years fun." I heard the nasty laugh of all three of them in the shadows.

One decides he was brave enough to come at Onyx. She side steps him with ease and gets a hold of his throat ripping it out. Blood hot and staining the snow around us.

I hear more wolves arriving as Onyx spits out the flesh blood dripping from her muzzle. " f**k, they called for back up" I heard her snarl.

"You b***h" howled the Alpha

He and the beta rush me at the same time. Onyx is putting up the fight of her life.They are a bit larger than her, But Onyx isn't small by any means. They bite and claw at her in a frenzy and she rips one of their tails clean off laughing in the moon light. He roars and the other wolf gets her leg in his mouth and bites down.

The sound of paws come close and I hear Trixie screaming. I'm knocked against the tree and I see five of the largest wolves I have ever seen in my life come into view. one looks right at me with smoky grey eyes, I snarl at him before everything fades to black and I hear the crunching of bones.

I wake up and everything hurts, It's so bright outside, I have no idea where I am. I jump out of the warm clean bed and almost fall to the floor. I look around dazed and see I'm in some sort of hospital. Bandages wrapped around my arms and legs. My head is pounding, I sniff the air looking for Trixie.

I'm not back home, I'm somewhere else and have to find her and make sure she is ok.

I stand up straight and notice there is a breeze behind the gown I'm wearing. Where are my clothes? I thought.

A Large plump older lady with grey hair and brown eyes comes into the room. We stare at each other, I must look scared and very out of it.

"oh, you're awake finally, Jenny is it? Your lovely friend and you are safe, she is down getting lunch. My name is Heather but everyone calls me Nana."

She smiles at me, and I don't know what to do. I wasn't expecting this. I glare at her trying to remember anything that happened, and how I got here.

Then it came back to me. We had made it across into crimson moons territory. The fight came smacking me into the face. All the blood and crunching of bones and I crumbled to my knees as I threw up all over the floor. Shaking I felt Nana's hands lifting me back into bed.

"Hush now, you're safe now. Those bad men can't hurt you or your friend anymore. shh, that's right relax and drink this. It will help you sleep, from what I heard you put up a good fight."

she tilted a cup into my mouth and I drank from it greedly.

She tucked me in and I finally spoke. My voice is raspy,

"how long have I been asleep?"

she starts cleaning my puke off the floor,

"You have been asleep for over 2 weeks, you're body was so broken we had to give you sleeping medicine to keep you still long enough for you to heal."

My purple eyes start to fill with tears, We had done it. We escaped and nothing will ever be the same.

She gives me this sad look. "I'll give some space sweet girl. I'll go grab your friend, she will be over joyed that you're awake. She has been by your side the whole time. "

She leaves shaking her head and muttering something about how we are just babies. and it wasn't fair what we had gone through.

When the door closed behind her I let out a sigh,

"Onyx you there?"

"Yes, you're finally awake I was worried you wouldnt wake back up."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, just don't expect me to go out for a run anytime soon."

We both chuckle, I hug myself as I start to get sleepy.

"Hey Onyx, thank you for protecting us. I love you."

" I love you too Jenny, get some sleep we have other things to worry about once your all healed up."

I hear a slight tease in her voice,

" What other things?"

she chuckles, " Do you notice there are 2 chairs around your bed. It hasn't just been sweet Trixie waiting on you to wake up and join the land of the living."

I'm falling back asleep as Onyx laughs and wags her tail in excitement.

I hear the doors open and Trixie running in throwing herself sobbing on my bed.

"Jenny, you're ok. oh thank the goddess you're ok!"

I lazily slid my hand over and stroke her sunny blonde hair. " Hey there sunshine, you miss me?"

She showers me with kisses and her tears fall on my numb face.

" Of course I missed you silly goose!"

She couldn't finish what she was saying before she started crying again.

I brush her stray bangs away from her face and hold her with my hand trying to stop the tears from falling off her nose.

The drink Nana had given me was really starting to kick in.

Behind Trixie the room started to stretch and warp a bit. I hear a voice come from the direction of the doorway.

"How is she?"

In walks a tan, tall, black haired giant of a man in a black shirt and dark jeans.

I start laughing, and I feel Trixie put her hand on my face. "She must have been given another sleeping drink."

The man walks up to the bed and I smell him. The scent of pine and rain flood over my sleepy mind. I struggle to focus on the blue grey eyes staring at me. I feel Onyx jumping around my drugged mind like a puppy. Her tail causing my already pounding head to thump louder.

Distorted echoes as I say in a slurred voice.

" Hello handsome tree man, I saw you in the woods. Who are you and why do you smell so good."

He grabs my hand gently, laughing as my eyes close.

I hear him say "Sleep now my little starlight, sleep well knowing your mate is here. I won't let anything happen to you."

In the darkness, I hear Onyx whisper just one word.

"Mate"
