3rd person pov. Maya stirred in her sleep, a sign of the nightmare that plagued her whether she was asleep or awake, it didn't matter, at last, she burst forth in shock, her arms stretched out before her as if reaching for something. She asked herself what was that, her body trembled vehemently as though it had been the worst, most scary nightmare she had ever seen. Yet she couldn't push the feeling that it was all real. Too real. She shakenly reached for her eyes which had been bandages as she recalled the last thing she had witnessed before she had passed out. I was about to be burnt in a pyre, had he changed his mind? She muttered to herself. Unbeknownst to her, someone watched her silently as time passed by until she felt a presence in the room with her, “Who's there?” Alert, she recoiled into herself and inched backwards into she felt the headrest behind her. Her body reminding her of the danger of the torture she had been through in her past and the scary images she though she saw. “How did you know that name?” Varek's deep hoarse voice sent a shiver down her spine, this made her stutter as she replied, “What…..what name?” Varek had watched her the entire time while she slept, he witnessed how much she was troubled in her sleep until she woke up, “I'm not here to play games, tell me what you know about my mother and perhaps I would let you live,” “I don't know anything about your mother,” “Don't make this hard on yourself, I can have you placed back in that pyre in seconds,” Varek didn't believe her, throwing questions her way about his theory. About how his mother might be alive and being held hostage in the crimson blood pack. “I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR MOTHER, OR WHO SHE IS, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOSTAGES,” Maya yelled in frustration before bursting into tears under the bandages which seems to make her very uncomfortable. Varek sighed defeated as he stared at the sorry excuse of what should have been a spy. Either she was innocent and didn't know anything about hostages, or she was just really good at acting. “Please,” Maya snotted, “Please, I don't know anything, I swear it,” Varek couldn't have been more confused, something inside of him wanted to believe her, but he didn't know why, “You called out a name before the fire consumed you, Auren,” “Why?” That's all he wanted to know for now, how she had known of that name. Maya tried to recall if she had said a name like that, and she did. However, “I don't know, it just…..came to me,” She knew it sounded crazy but that was the only explanation she had. Varek didn't know what else to do, he thought he could get some answers from her, built his hope up that his mother was still alive, just for it to come crashing all down. Without wasting much of his time, he pushed himself from the couch, this caused Maya to raise her head at the motion, wondering what he was about to do next. But Varek didn't know himself, he proceeded to walk out of the room without another word, when he reached the door however Maya's soft voice called out for him to stop, “I'm sorry I don't have any information for you,” Varek didn't believe that, “You do have information, you're just not willing to share,” that he was positive about. “I know you don't trust me yet, but I'm not here to cause any trouble, in fact, I'm willing to leave,” she paused for a brief second, “That is, if you let me,” Her words resonated in his head, “And have you spread a secret to your pack? How stupid do you think I am?” Maya couldn't help but sigh, “I couldn't do that even if I wanted to,” she realised that holding back on information would only cause her more trouble, “I was banished, and if they find me, no matter what, they would kill me,” This piqued Varek's interest as he hung by the doors as this was the first time she was willing to share something about herself, “Why were you banished?” Maya shivered as she didn't want to remember that night, it only hurt her more. Varek sensed that she wasn't about to speak and was really interested. “All I can say is, I am healed and If you let me, I would be out of your hair and be as far away from here as possible, you wouldn't have to hear from me ever again,” she promised, despite not having anywhere else to go. She was just tired of the constant torture, the constant worrying, and the questioning. Varek gave it a thought for a second, before coming up with a decision, “You are not healed yet,” he noted, “And I can't let you leave,” Maya's hope came crashing down, something the both of them had in common without even knowing it. He couldn't let her leave, at least not until he confirmed and could really trust what she was saying. But now Varek was curious, what could a little girl like her possibly have done to deserve to be banished, was she a criminal? A murderer perhaps? A number of thoughts crossed his mind, but he wanted to know because something about Maya that he couldn't stop thinking about her. With that, Varek walked away, leaving Maya to her own thoughts, which didn't seem to last as she seemed to have another visitor without her knowledge. “Is someone there?” Her head swerved around, trying to pinpoint who it was, “Alpha Varek?” Maya thought Varek had still remained and that he was the one currently in the room. Yet no one seemed to answer despite her calls, she could sense someone was in the room with her, but after a while that presence was gone.
