Chapter six: A choice to regret

1045 Words
Maya's pov Darkness. That was all there was, it surrounded me like it was the only thing that existed, And then a loud voice echoed so close to my ears which caused me to flinch back in fear, the memories flooded me in seconds as his voice reminded me of HIM. “You need to leave,” they said. I whimpered, inching away from the sounds of this voice, but there was someone else behind who held me in place, I didn't know who they were, what they wanted with me. If anything I shouldn't even be alive to be wondering what had happened, my muscles felt light, as though they could be blown away any second. “Varek, don't do this,” someone, a more feminine voice whispered, trying to reason with him. Varek however wasn't having any of it, not ready to listen, his voice laced with an anger that stemmed from hatred, something I'm quite familiar with over the course of my life, “We are currently being attacked and they are probably here for her, if we give her up, we can save the rest of us,” I remained silent, afraid to speak in fear that there might be repercussions of speaking out, of letting my voice be louder than my heart beat. Years of punishment and learning in the crimson blood pack had taught me that. Then again, I had to wonder if I was still in the crimson blood pack, if I was, would Alpha Torian find me to finish the job, I wouldn't be alive. The thought made my heart race, my breathing elevated as I became scared, after only barely escaping death. Remembering Alpha Torian's last words, I couldn't help but reach for my eyes. Tears streamed down from where my eyes should have been, and the truth hit me in the gut. That the world would remain as it is for the rest of my days. “You guys stop,” the voice behind me welled their raging argument, there was a surprising silence with the distant howls being the only sounds that shook me to my core. They had argued if I should remind them or I should leave, “We can't be talking about this now, you need to deal with those wolves,” the feminine voice explained, “If we continue this argument, there would be more deaths and it would no longer be her fault,” Once again silence ensued and I am lost, depending on only my sense of hearing. Varek raged on, “They are after her, if we let her go then we wouldn't have to fight them,” “And how would you know they are after her?” Sarah sounded like she had had enough, “She was left for dead, if they wanted to find her they would have done so a long time ago,” Varek countered, “You don't know the crimson blood pack like I did, they are ruthless creatures and if they are coming for her then we wouldn't stand such brutal force,” he warned. I couldn't argue with that as he was right, what if the crimson blood realised that I was alive, they were bound to come for me and make sure they finished me off. “That's not going to happen,” Sarah replied, her voice laced with uncertainty. The sounds of footsteps echoed loudly and after they disappeared, I could feel the presence of one less person that didn't hate my guts, “He's gone now, you don't need to be scared,” Sarah's voice was soft as she placed a comforting hand on the side of my upper arm. I flinched unconsciously, not meaning to, wanting to disappear to the deepest and darkest part of the world and never come out. I didn't know the tears were flowing freely down my face. Sarah cooed, “you don't have to cry, you are safe with us, we are not going to let anything happen to you, okay?” I shook my head, scoffing because that was not the reason for my tears, the reason was knowing they were making the biggest mistake of their lives by keeping me here, by wanting to protect me. I wanted to scream, to tell them not to but I was afraid at the same time that they would leave me for dead. Torian was a ruthless leader, following the old laws to the core. If Torian found out that someone had helped me, he wasn't only going to come for me, but he would come for them and everything they hold dear to them. He would believe I had spilled pack secrets to them in exchange for my life being saved. But there was nothing I could do other than remain silent while I was being dragged away. I couldn't run as fast as they could as I wasn't a werewolf, I seemed to be slowing Sarah down as I kept tripping. There wasn't much energy left within my brittle bones. “If she pushes herself further, she might not be able to make it,” the other voice mentioned as we came to a stop. I stood while I let them decide my fate, because I didn't have the power to do it myself. I was like a child in the midst of adults but this child was blind and helpless. The chilling wind blew my hair over my face which I pushed away and in the next second I was lifted into the air, I gasped as blood began to rush to my ears, with the drumming sounds of my heart beat. Too close, I chanted in my head. Too close for comfort, my body trembled in their hold and all I wanted was to be set back in my feet, my legs despite being weak should feel the hum of the earth. However, whoever lifted me up didn't budge, not where they were ready to set me down, a loud roar shook me to my core as it tore through the air. A shiver ran down my spine as the sound of a wolf howling in despair, anger and pain. “Go! Go! Go!” Sarah urged.
