3rd person pov.
Claudia shrieked back as her skin brushed Varek's and for a moment, she felt an excruciating pain that shut through her body like an electric current, gritting her teeth tightly, she pulled her hands off his and inched away from Varek.
To Varek, it would seem as though she was reacting to the silver chains which was one of the many weaknesses to the werewolves among others.
He himself would have sustained injuries if it wasn't for the leather gloves that he had worn. He also saw this little act as a sign of defiance and this enraged him even more.
“Alpha Varek with all due respect, you can't do this to her, it would hinder the whole process of her healing, only making her remain in our pack longer that you want,” Mark tried to reason, casting a sad gaze at the weak and helpless Maya who had to endure all this suffering just because their alpha was too insecure and suspicious of everything that moved.
Varek ignored Mark's pleas, grabbing Maya's hands with more force than necessary as the girl was sickly thin.
If Maya had eyes, she would be staring at Varek with the same mirrored shock as Mark, maybe even more.
She couldn't quite explain what she saw and let Varek place the chains on her. No, it didn't burn like she would have thought, at least not more than her skin when it brushed his.
It was only for a brief second, no heads or tails, just pain and suffering.
“The cuffs are padded, as long as she doesn't try to escape, then she'll be fine,” Varek announced before rising up to his full height.
With one last glance towards Maya, something inside of him stirred, staring at those bandages, and convincing himself that this was for their own safety.
Varek turned around and faced Mark, “Don't ever question me again,” he threatened Mark who dropped his head low in respect while Varek stormed out.
Maya sat on the bed, not bothering about the chains as she tried to figure out what had happened to her, she realised she had seen a few images flash across her vision but they were so fast she could barely make sense of them.
Mark's voice drifted into her ears, “Look, I'm really sorry about this,” he had nothing else to say on Varek's behaviour, and so excused himself, promising to speak with the alpha.
it would be best if they just put me out of my misery.
She thought, at least that way, Torian wouldn't find her and make her life even more miserable than it was. He would also make those around her suffer the same fate.
Perhaps I shouldn't put them in that much danger.
But there was nothing she could do, being blind and chained up.
Time seems to pass by rather slowly when there was nothing to do, Mark kept checking up on her for days. Apparently, he couldn't get Varek to release her from the chains fully, only when she needed to use the bathroom.
That day, Sarah had decided to visit alongside Mark, “How are you feeling?” She inquired, even though there was only so much a recently blind person could feel.
Maya merely nodded to the sound of Sarah's voice.
“I just wanted to check in on you, I'm sorry about the chains, Varek wouldn't listen, but he would come around soon,” she tried to reassure, but deep down, she didn't believe Varek would do such a thing, “It's just that we've been real busy with setting up the pack, he doesn't have the time….”
Sarah was cut short when the doors to the room were pushed open and in walked Varek. Both of them launched to their feet and bowed in respect, trying to hide the surprise in their faces.
“The both of you can leave,” Varek ordered.
Mark didn't waste much time before exiting the room, nowhere Sarah lingered, trying to make sense of what he was about to do, “Whatever it is you are about to do, think about it first, you….”
Once again she was cut off by a single glare from Varek. Sarah pressed her lips in a thin line, changing a look backward before exiting the room as well.
Maya heard the heavy footsteps that approached her, wanting to retreat, but there was nowhere for her to run.
There was a brief silence before Varek's deep voice resonated,
“I have given you enough time, but I need information, the truth,”
Apparently, Norman had made him promise to give her some time before barraging her with his questions, hence why he didn't already torture the answers out of her.
“Who are you?”
Maya, after much deliberation, realised that if she wanted to be safe, to be free of these chains, she would have to answer his questions, even though she was afraid of him.
“Maya…..Maya black,”
Varek was taken off guard as he thought she would want to make things difficult by not answering his questions, “What is your purpose? Did the Crimson blood pack send you? Is this some kind of decoy?”
Varek studied her features, her clenched fist on the sheets, her lips pressed in a firm line and the way she trembled at the mention of the pack's name.
Unbeknownst to him, Maya was reliving the night of her rejection over and over again, every single detail, right down to the moment she lost her vision.
The alpha noticed the bandages around her eyes darkening, which caused him to frown, “Was she…..crying?” He wondered.
Varek watched as Maya sniffled before wiping at her nostrils, “I'm sorry, it's just….it's a long story,” one that she didn't want to talk about.
“I don't care, I need to protect my pack which is not really guaranteed since you are here, so unless you want to be back in those woods, you better start talking,” he placed a hand on her arm and threatened her with the silver chains.
When their skin touched each other, Maya threw her head back and images flew across her vision, this caused her to go into a gasping fit and more tears soaked the bandages on her face.
“We are all going to die, we are all going to die,” she choked out, trembling in tears.
