Victor’s POV:
“Greetings, Alpha Victor.” The council elders greeted me as I stepped into the throne room. I waved my hands at them, and focused my gaze on Beta Jensen instead.
“So how did the meeting go with Dominic?” I asked as I sat on my throne chair. Beta Jensen stood up, bowed slightly before slowly shaking his head.
“Oh no!” A disturbed sigh escaped one of the elders. I also took a deep breath as I adjusted myself on the chair which I just sat on.
“And you told him about the prophecy?”
“Yes, my Alpha.” Beta Jensen bowed.
The Westwood pack has been trying to form an alliance with Dominic Sterling, the Alpha of the neighboring Ironfang pack, following the prophecy relayed by the pack’s moon priestess but Dominic would not agree to join hands with us.
I smirked. I clicked my tongue and cleared my throat.
“Then we can only depend on ourselves. How’s the training going at the border?” I inquired, turning my face to General Rhodes.
“I have a report to make regarding that, my alpha.” General Rhodes replied to me. My face wrinkled as I leaned forward on my chair.
“It’s about Freya. The daughter of the traitor.” He continued, and I fell even deeper into a pool of confusion.
“And how does the training have anything to do with her?” I asked him, flipping my hands and gently hitting them on my laps.
“Alpha Victor. Freya is a curse to this land. Her presence alone is a thorn in our flesh, not to talk of how she is influencing the young wolves to question the pack's rules.” General Rhodes' voice came out sharp and the hall was instantly filled with murmurs.
I coughed. I ran my eyes across the hall and everywhere fell silent almost immediately.
“What do you mean by that, general Rhodes?"
General Rhodes stood up from his chair, and took a few steps to the center of the room.
“A young wolf named Quinn was found at the border!”
“What?” An elder gasped.
“He is known to hang around Freya almost every time, and I can say for sure she must have influenced him to visit the training ground.” General Rhodes continued, and I could feel a rush of annoyance rush down my spine.
“Are you sure of what you just said?” My voice echoed across the room. Hot air blew through my nostrils as memories of the past flowed through my brain. The bloodshed. The m******e. The cries that wouldn’t seem to end. He would have ended the whole bloodline of the Nolan’s if the moon priestess had not begged him to spare Freya.
“Yes. A trusted soldier reported the matter to me on my way here.” General Rhodes answered.
“The boy just appeared at the border. How can you be so sure it was Freya who instigated him to do that? Did the boy tell you that?” Elder Avery, who has been quiet throughout the meeting, directed his question to the general.
“Then who else could it be? The rogue wolves are getting more and more insolent and daring. What if something had happened to the little boy?” General Rhodes paused, smirked and slowly walked to Avery.
“I wonder where your loyalty lies, elder Avery. Is it to the Westwood pack or to the Nolan’s family?”
“You!”
“I shouldn’t have spared her then!” I blurted out. My palms curled up into fists, and my nail dug into my flesh, causing blood to drip out.
“We can have her executed now. We must not allow such a pest to spread out to…”
“How dare you refer to my mate as a pest?” A thunderous voice shook the room, followed by a golden lightning strike which sent the general rolling to the floor.
I banged my hand on the chair, and sprang to my feet immediately. “What did you just say?”
“My mate. Freya is my mate, and I won’t let anyone treat her as if she is not one of us.” Declan’s words traveled through my ears and a sharp pain cut through my heart immediately.
The council fell into a wave of mutterings as necks flung and gossips rolled around.
“You don’t know what you are saying, son. You can’t possibly be mated to a traitor of the pack!” I screamed. My eyes bulged out of their sockets, and I gritted my teeth in annoyance.
“Freya isn’t a traitor. Her father was, and she is not him!” He fired back at me, and my jaw dropped in shock.
This was not the Declan that I knew. He could barely look me in the eyes in the last months, and he was now openly going against me because of a woman, a bad blood for all that matters!!
I took a deep breath. Freya was indeed a bone in my throat.
“Don’t get too lost, son. Come back before things get worse.”
“No! Things would only get worse if your men do not leave Freya alone!” He roared. He then fixed his gaze on the general who was still groaning in pain with blood gushing down his mouth..
“The next time you lie against Freya, you will get more than just a broken jaw! So, next time, you get your facts straight.” He uttered before storming out of the room.
I staggered. Crashed on my throne chair as my blood ran totally cold. I must get rid of Freya. She cannot breathe the same air as me. Not possible!
“Bring me the moon priestess. Now!”
