Chapter 2

Ontario, Canada. Alliana's pov: "Pleasant to see you, Mr. Moretti," I said from across the table. "Thank you for meeting with me, Ms. Mercedes," Vincent said. "No problem, how's the case going?" I asked, getting down to business. "It's going well," Vincent said. "Happy to hear," I said as I took out his document. "Is there any new information?" Vincent asked. "There's nothing special here; you're free," I say as I hand him the paper. Vincent and I have been working on his case for approximately two years. Vincent was sued for fraud, and it was a lengthy process with very little sleep and numerous discussions and meetings. But everything was about to change now. Vincent has been declared innocent after a long and complex process of demonstrating his innocence. Thank God, I was finally able to receive a paycheck. "Thank you, Lord," Vincent said as he clapped. I gave him two papers: the finalization paper and the payment amount. "Here's the finalization paper and the payment amount," I said. He nodded and took the paper. "A thousand and two hundred dollars?" Not too shabby. "I believe you deserve more because you are one of the best lawyers in Ontario," Vincent stated. "How sweet of you," I replied with a smile. Vincent took out his wallet and handed me the money. "Thank you!" I exclaimed as I rose to my feet. Souline arrived and took the money, placing it in an envelope. Vincent also stood up. "Thank you very much for everything, Ms. Mercedes," Vincent said as he approached the door. "You're welcome!" I said as I opened the door for him. We said our final goodbyes. I returned to the sofa and sat down. "Thank goodness this case is over," I said, glancing over at Souline. "Same, this case has been going for way too long," Souline remarked. "Agreed, we can finally unwind," I said. "Don't forget, we have another meeting coming up," Souline reminded me. "Oh, don't even remind me," I rolled my eyes. "I'm sorry, Ms. Mercedes, but that's my job as your assistant," Souline grinned. "Yeah, yeah," I said as I flung a pillow at her. "You b***h," Souline scoffed as she threw it back. "Bad b***h, you mean?" I questioned as I caught it. "Of course," Souline responded. I chuckled. "Let me go make something; we both deserve a break," Souline said as she started walking to the kitchen. "You mean I deserve a break?" I asked. "Both," Souline replied. We giggled as we walked into the kitchen to assist her with cooking. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rome, Italy. Carlos's pov: I felt nothing but relief after the girl left the premises. What do these crazy girls get out of it? There was nothing but f*****g embarrassment. I dressed in some new clothes. I looked as good as always. I came downstairs after I finished changing. Today I had a lot on my plate: banks, legal issues, and taxes. Kai is going to assist me with everything; he'll handle my legal issues and taxes while I handle the bank. I drank some water since I wasn't hungry. I looked around, searching for Kai. You could never keep a close eye on this man because he is hidden everywhere. But then I realized: his office! I went upstairs again and entered his office. When I walked in, everything was neatly organized, with nothing dirty or sloppy. Kai was sitting at his desk, I'm guessing doing some documentation. Kai lifted his head and noticed me. "Oh, I didn't see you there." "How did you sleep?" Kai asked. "Good, you?" I asked. "Not bad," Kai said, standing up and stretching. "By the way, why did I hear a girl inside the mansion?" Kai asked. Fuck. "Oh, you heard everything?" I asked, scratching my temples. "Who hasn't? Mimi, too, woke up," said Kai, transferring his gaze to Mimi, who was in her room. "Oh, apologies, Mimi," I said as I scooped her up and nuzzled her. Mimi was the princess of the mansion. Even though she was a kitten. Mimi was my mother's kitten, which my father had purchased for her 26th birthday. I haven't seen her since my father and mother passed away. She'd constantly be in her room, either searching for them or remaining with Kai. I've never had a connection with Mimi because I've disliked her ever since she pissed on my favorite jersey. But she has been tamed and trained now. I set Mimi down and watched her return to her corner. "Yeah, she didn't leave, so I had AJ and Denzel escort her out," I explained as I sat on the chair at the front desk. "Oh man, this is not the first time that this has happened," Kai said, cringing. "I know, I know," I mumbled, rolling my eyes. Kai then stood up and opened one of the desk drawers. "So, do you have any plans for today?" Kai asked while pulling out some paper. "Not by much," I replied. "Less?" Kai asked. "Not really, I just need you to look after some things while I go to the bank," I explained. "Like?" Kai asked. "It's a legal issue and some taxes," I explained. "I can do the taxes, then the case, because it's going to take some time," Kai explained. "Certainly," I said, understanding. "As soon as I finish the taxes, I'll call Vincent," Kai said. I stood up and nodded. I exited his office and went outside to meet with AJ, Vex, and Denzel. "Guard the area, and I'll let you know when the lawyer arrives," I said as I climbed into the limo. They all nodded and returned inside. My chauffeur took me out of the area and into the city. When I looked around, I noticed that people were applauding and cheering when they observed the limo. They recognized me. As they applauded, I smiled slightly. Due to the tinted window, they couldn't see me, but I'd let them know in silence. Due to traffic, it took us a while to get to the bank. I'm a mafia, but I'll still follow the rules and not cut corners. I leaned back in my seat and waited. I looked at my watch, then at the floor. Traffic-wise, it took me about thirty minutes to get to the bank. As I entered the bank, my chauffeur escorted me. I could tell a lot of people were gazing at me; they already knew who I was. I had a VIP space when I entered the bank. I went upstairs and to my space. It was a bit dark downstairs, but it was bright as hell upstairs. I went to my office after hissing at the lighting. I went inside, shut the door, sat in my chair, and logged into my computer. I logged into my bank account and checked my balance. I like it when everything is full of money. After I finished, I turned everything off and left the bank. I could have checked it at home, but you need a code to get in. I exited the bank and returned to my limo. I had to run a few errands before returning home to the mansion. "To Skulls Firearms," I told the chauffeur. Later on... It took me forever to run some errands, but now I know to do them first thing in the morning. The good news is that Kai called to tell me that he had finished paying the bills, which is great. But he also mentioned some bad news, which had me a bit concerned. I instructed my chauffeur to return me to the mansion. The traffic wasn't as bad as it had been previously. We returned to the mansion in twenty minutes. While the bodyguards stood outside, I went inside. Kai had taken a seat on the downstairs couch. He stood up as soon as he saw me. "Hey," I said as I approached him. "Hey, so I checked the taxes and bills, and they're all paid and okay," Kai explained. "All right," I said, nodding. "But the bad news is that you're in trouble," Kai grumbled. In confusion, I creased my brows. "What do you mean, 'I'm in trouble'?" I asked. "Well, Vincent called to tell me that he would no longer be working on your case because it seemed too complicated and like it would take forever," Kai explained. I felt nothing but rage in my body. "What the f**k do you mean!?" I yelled. "Vincent is finished with us," Kai declared. I was absolutely livid. I threw everything close to me, such as the vase and some furniture. Kai had to restrain me for me to calm down, but it didn't work. The fact that I paid this man half of my balance and he told me he quit because my case was so complicated is f*****g horseshit. Helping your clients is your f*****g job as a lawyer. Now I have to look for a new lawyer who can f*****g help me. I sighed. "I need to clear my f*****g head," I said while heading upstairs. I didn't know what the f**k to do now. The fact that I might even go to jail or be arrested because I won't f*****g have any help from a lawyer is f*****g stressful. I went to my private bar. The bartender, Flynn, was there and saw me coming in. "Is everything alright sir?" asked the bartender. "Just serve me something to calm me down," I said while sitting down on the chair while messaging my side. He nodded as he began serving me something. One thing I like about my bartender is how quickly he works. "Your drink, sir," the bartender said as he placed the drink on my table. "Thank you," I said as I held it and swirled the drink around. I sighed as I took a sip. "Have you ever felt that you gave someone you thought would help you too much trust and they just walked away like s**t?" I asked the bartender. The bartender turned around to face me. "What's the matter, sir?" asked the bartender. Shit, I guess I'll vent to him. "As you know, I'm in legal trouble and had Vincent assist me with a case. It was going well until today when he called Kai and told him that he would no longer be assisting me with the case because it was too complex and difficult," I explained. "Isn't that what lawyers are supposed to do?" the bartender asked. "Exactly," I said as I took another sip. "Well, I know one lawyer who is very skilled and talented; she's one of the best lawyers," the bartender described. When he said that, my gaze lit up. "Are you serious?" I asked. "Yes, she's worked for several mafias and delinquents," the bartender confirmed. "Could you please tell me who she is?" I asked, intrigued. "Certainly, sir. Alliana Mercedes is her name."
