“When the witch of prophecy awakens, even the stars tremble.”
Lucas POV
The forest behind our compound stirred with restless energy.
My pack stood in a half-circle—silent, tense, waiting for my command.
Jason stepped beside me, jaw tight.
“Alpha,” he murmured, “the fae answered the summons. They’re waiting in the clearing.”
Finally.
We walked forward together, the air crackling with old magic.
As we stepped into the moonlit clearing, three fae materialized like drifting embers—glimmering wings, bright eyes, and bodies sculpted from starlight.
The leader, a small fae with silver hair that floated like smoke, bowed.
“Alpha Lucas. You called.”
I crossed my arms, voice low.
“We need answers. Shadows are crossing the border. Ghouls were summoned under the full moon. And…”
My jaw clenched.
“My mate appeared in the Mundane Realm.”
Jason stiffened beside me, but the fae didn’t even blink.
The silver-haired one lifted her chin.
“We know.”
A cold ripple slid down my spine.
“How?” I demanded.
She floated closer, eyes glowing violet.
“Because word spreads quickly in our courts. There is a rumor…”
Her wings flickered nervously.
Jason growled. “Speak.”
She inhaled softly.
“They say the Witch of the Prophecy has arrived in the Mundane Realm.”
My heart slammed against my ribs.
“The prophecy is a myth.”
Her wings beat harder, scattering silver dust.
“No myth, Alpha. A witch whose bloodline disappeared generations ago—foretold to return when the realms begin to fracture. When shadows rise. When the mate bond screams loud enough to shake fate.”
Jason’s eyes snapped toward me.
“Lucas… your mate tonight—”
“I don’t want assumptions,” I growled, even as Ares howled with certainty inside me.
The fae drifted around us, her voice a whisper of storm and wind.
“This witch will awaken marked.
Followed by shadows.
Seen by fae.
Claimed by an Alpha not born of her world.
And she will either save the realms…”
Her voice dropped into something ancient and resonant.
“…or destroy them all.”
Silence slammed over the clearing.
Jason swallowed hard.
“That sounds exactly like—”
“I said no assumptions,” I snapped again.
But my heart knew.
Ares knew.
The fae lowered her head.
“Alpha… you summoned us to ask why a human could suddenly see us. Why the shadows stirred. Why the mate bond reacted violently. There is only one answer.”
She paused, wings trembling.
“If she has met her familiar… then the prophecy is true.”
She pointed a glowing finger at my chest.
“Your mate is not human.
Your mate is the prophecy.”
Ares howled in triumph.
My chest tightened.
My breath vanished.
My mate…
The witch of the prophecy?
Jason stepped forward, voice hushed.
“What do we do now?”
I closed my eyes, letting her scent wash over me—the cinnamon, the apple, the coconut, the warmth I could still feel on my skin.
“Find the truth,” I said.
“And protect her at all costs.”
The fae nodded.
“Then hurry, Alpha. Because if she is awakening… the shadows will come first.”
A feral growl tore from my throat.
“Let them come,” I said coldly.
“They’ll die.”
The third fae—silent until now—finally spoke, her voice gentle but grave.
“Her familiar will guide her. It will help her reconnect to her lineage and unlock her power. But if the shadows reach her first… then you, as her mate, must become her light. Her balance. Her anchor. She is as dangerous as she is precious.”
I stepped forward.
“Then tell me where she is,” I ordered.
“She needs to be here—protected. With us.”
