CHAPTER THREE “The Silence Between Us Could Kill” — Dual POV: Alessio & Luca ⸻ Alessio He told himself it was nothing. Just heat. Just instinct. Just biology. But every time Alessio shut his eyes, he saw Luca—those flushed cheeks, the tear in his voice when he whimpered “I hate you,” the way his body had clung to Alessio’s like it didn’t know how to let go. He hadn’t touched another Omega since. He couldn’t. The scent was still in his lungs. A phantom ache in his hands. And every f*****g time someone mentioned the Morettis, Alessio’s stomach twisted—not with hate. With something else. “Still brooding, boss?” Ricci stepped into the office without knocking. The bastard never did. “Shut up.” Ricci dropped a file on the desk. “Intel from Naples. Moretti’s been quiet. Too quiet.” “I don’t care.” “You should. They’re not reacting to their son’s disappearance.” Alessio’s jaw clenched. “He’s not their priority. That tells me everything I need to know about how they see him.” “You planning to keep him?” Alessio didn’t answer. He didn’t know. He hadn’t gone back to Luca’s room since that night. He didn’t trust himself. ⸻ Luca It had been three days. Three days of silence. No visit. No shouting. No commands. Only guards who dropped food outside his door like he was some dangerous thing locked in a cage. Luca stared at the untouched bowl of soup. His stomach curled at the smell. He was starving—but he couldn’t eat. Everything made him nauseous. The lights were too bright. The room too warm. His skin felt too tight, like it was betraying him from the inside out. He gripped the edge of the sink as another wave of dizziness washed over him. This isn’t happening. It’s too soon. It can’t be— But the signs were there. The heightened senses. The nausea. The faint, sweet scent that hadn’t been there before. He was pregnant. The word echoed in his mind like a bullet ricocheting off steel. No. No no no. This couldn’t happen. Not with him. Not with Alessio f*****g Romano. Panic hit hard and fast. He turned to the small window slit near the ceiling, barely wide enough to let in air. There had to be a way out. A plan. He had to run before the monster who’d done this found out. Before he decided to make Luca his property again. Or worse— The mother of his heir. ⸻ Alessio He couldn’t stay away anymore. By the time he reached the room, his chest burned from holding in everything he refused to say. The guards looked at him nervously. He waved them off. He opened the door without knocking. Luca was sitting on the mattress, pale and sweating, his hands gripping his abdomen like he was in pain. His head jerked up at the sound of the door. The second their eyes met, Alessio knew something had changed. “You’re sick?” he asked roughly. Luca’s eyes narrowed. “No. I’m fine.” He didn’t look fine. “You look like shit.” “Thanks. You look like a bastard.” Alessio took a slow step in. “What’s wrong with you?” “Nothing.” Luca spat the word like poison. “I just want out of here. Or am I staying until you knock me up for real?” Silence. Heavy. Sharp. Alessio’s jaw ticked. “What did you say?” Luca stood, swaying slightly. “You heard me. This is what you do, right? Break them. Breed them. Send them back to their families carrying your legacy.” A dangerous spark ignited in Alessio’s eyes. He crossed the room in two strides and grabbed Luca by the arm—not hard, not gentle. Just enough to make the Omega gasp. “You think this was a plan?” Luca’s voice cracked. “Wasn’t it?” “I lost control.” His voice was gravel and fire. “I haven’t touched anyone since.” “Don’t lie to me.” “I’m not.” Then, quieter— “I can’t.” For the first time, Luca flinched—not from fear, but from something he didn’t want to feel. Something he thought he’d buried the second that night ended. Alessio stared at him, then slowly lifted his hand to rest against Luca’s lower belly. Not touching. Just hovering. “Is there something you’re not telling me?” Luca’s breath hitched. Too close. Too late. Too soon. And just like that, the wall between them cracked. Not with softness. But with tension so tight it could snap necks. “I said nothing’s wrong,” Luca lied. Alessio didn’t believe him. But he didn’t push. Not yet.
