Adam cried out. When he heard his own voice echoing back at him, he knew he wasn’t in Chloe’s room anymore. The slime that enveloped him had transported him somewhere else. He blinked away the haze from his eyes to reveal darkness all around him. His whole body still burned, his skin prickling with pain. At least he was in a place that had become familiar to him. He’d been in this empty void before. He still didn’t know what this place was exactly, but he imagined it was a place between the living and the dead.
