"It is better to leave than to drag,"
Jake ran back to his house as fast as he could, to prevent any more trouble. Jake ate his breakfast heartily, stuffed as much as he could, had a bath, and decided to take a nap. The day went by, nothing much had happened. Jake started thinking about his trip to the town in the morning he felt as if the voices he heard were fear of his former times. It would be impossible for a civilized man to stay sane here without any commitments.
By dark, Jake started reading his Bible, it was a routine followed by him from his early years, taught to him by his grandfather who was a priest. He was a respected figure in society. Apart from his father, everyone in his family was a strong Christian. He had an uneasy childhood beginning with his father abandoning his mother. His mother had to face difficulties to raise Jake suffered from mental health issues in her later years. It was his grandfather who made sure he raised a strong Christian upholding religious principles.
That sleepless night Jake had a second dream, it was again around two A.M. just like the previous day. There was a beautiful-looking lady, divine and pure with brown hair and a radiant smile. Behind her radiating smile, there was a look of anxiousness. She was suppressing a lot of pain as if Jake saw his mother in her. Then there were two little boys, almost similar looking suggesting they were twins and Jake was playing with them. A voice is calling them “Tom…BRADY…TOM…BRADY”. Tom was wearing specs, and Brady looked a very strong boy for his age group. Jake had a smile in his sleep. He looked in peace, and suddenly the next thing he saw was that the two children were engulfed by a force. Jake and the mother were running behind them but in vain.
Jake got up suddenly. He was sweating again for the second day in a row. He decided to go out to get some air. As Jake was in the portico, he heard some strange noises from the Mansion. It felt like there were people inside. Jake experienced a chill all over his body. But he hadn’t seen a living thing in the mansion leading to fear. Though Jake ignored what Magnolina said before, he decided to go back inside. Jake took a blanket covered himself up like a little child and kept the lighter with him. He decided to leave Angelstown the next day because he felt something was not right in Angelstown. He felt negative energy was following him. Jake recognized another repetition of his past will only drive him crazy.
The next day Jake got up early and packed his bag. He had no other option but to leave the town. After packing, Jake picked up his Bible and kept it in his hand to feel safe while traveling through the forest. By sunrise, he was ready to leave. A dejected Jake was leaving and as he started walking suddenly a voice appeared and called him by his name “Jake ….Jake” upon hearing the voice Jake turned around in a Jiffy, the voice sounded like his mother calling him. Suddenly Jake was hypnotized by the voice. He dropped his bags and started following the voice. In no time he was standing near the gate of the mansion. Jake was now in his senses but the voice of his mother allured him. He couldn’t leave without finding the fact so Jake decided to enter the mansion.
He saw that the entrance was not locked and so he carefully opened it up and there was a screeching sound as the gate was rusted. He was not sure of what it is with the mansion, but there was something in it to allure one. It was a well-built mansion, definitely old but its construction was such that it would stand as a thing of beauty for generations.
The Mansion looked like it was inspired by Roman architecture and Greek sculpture, one half of the mansion was built in the shape of a coliseum and other parts like any other mansion. There were statues of different characters of Greek mythology around the mansion. There was a sense of grandeur in the property; it was built to be eternal. Jake was marveling at the architectural spectacle as he felt he needed to see what’s inside. No one could ever resist the temptation of Woods Mansion even Jake couldn’t. He decided to go inside just for once. Jake knocked on the door knowing there is no one to open, but as a courtesy, he decided to wait. To the surprise of Jake, the door is opened by beautiful women, the same woman he saw in his dream last night.
“Hi,” said Jake in a curious voice.
“Hi,” She replied in a calming voice.
“I’m sorry, do you live here,” asked Jake shocked at what he just witnessed.
“Yes, we moved here yesterday” replied the women “May I know who you are?” asked the women with the same curiosity.
“Well, I am your neighbor, I live in that house" pointing towards his house.
“Well I didn’t know I will have a neighbor when I came here, to be honest,” replied the women.
“I’m Jake by the way” introduced himself still unsure what he has just witnessed.
“Eliza,” she said.
Jake saw children rushing towards Eliza, as they were busy playing hide and seek. Jake heard the same sound yesterday night from the mansion and he realized it was of the little boys playing.
“Probably you moved in yesterday when I was in town to get groceries,” said Jake thoughtfully.
“They are my dear children,” Eliza as the children came closer to her.
Jake was awestruck when he understood that he saw the same children in his dream.
“Say your names children,” asked Eliza.
“Tom and Brady,” told Jake in a shocked manner.
Eliza gave a surprised look “How did you…” before Eliza could complete the question a sudden voice from the first floor shook the building.
Both Jake and Eliza, who were standing near the door, rushed towards the room. It was the biggest room in the Mansion. Jake at that vulnerable moment couldn’t even notice how the Mansion was from inside. As they entered the room, to the shock of Eliza, their things were spread all over the room as if someone picked it up and messed it on purpose. Jake immediately understood that something was wrong. But he didn’t want to scare them, so he diverted their attention to the open window of the room.
“It should be the wind I suppose, sometimes there is too much wind here just be careful about keeping the windows open at that time.” Said Jake casually.
As the children and Eliza left the room Jake heard a voice, he turned behind to spot tar splattering over from the photograph of a man in the room. Jake decided to ignore it and walked away.
But how long will Jake ignore the voice?
