"That one's perfect," I say plainly to the realtor. She stares at me for a second.
"What are you, hard of hearing? She wants that one!" Noah growls out, clearly not in the mood to be patient today.
"I mean - yes, okay. I'll get the paperwork and have you sign and pay the deposit. Keys will be ready by four today." She says, glancing over at Noah nervously. I didn't actually look at any place. She showed me some pictures, and I picked the first one she showed me. It doesn't have to be perfect or even my dream home. It just needs to be mine.
She hands me a stack of papers, and I give her my debit card. I start signing as she runs the card. When we're done, we leave quickly. When we get back into Noah's car, I sigh.
"Where to now?" He asks, glancing over at me. I roll my head on the seat to look at him. I stare at him for a minute. He avoids my look.
"Tyler's office, I texted him earlier, and he said the first thing he did this morning was draw up the paperwork." Noah nods, finally looking at me, his eyes flash with something, but quickly disappear. He has beautiful blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. He's smaller than my brother but not by much, still very well built, and has a little scar right above his lip. He would never tell me where it was from. I don't even remember seeing him when it was an open wound.
"Okay, let's go." He says softly, turning his attention back to the road. It takes us about forty-five minutes to get to Tyler's office, and we spent the entire time in silence. I closed my eyes to try to forget. When we get there, we go up into the building together. Tyler works for a very well known lawyer corporation and is, of course, one of their best.
Finding him was easy; I just ignored everyone asking me what I was doing and went directly to his office.
"Jenn and Noah, I was expecting you sooner, actually," Tyler says, standing. He brings me over a stack of papers. "Now, are you sure this is what you want? I did exactly as you asked of me, but we should ruin him. You're letting him off easy." Tyler says, holding the papers tighter.
"I don't want to fight, I just want to get away." I tell him softly, "I don't need anything from him, nor do I want anything from him." He finally releases the papers and nods.
"Okay, I'll see you later. Once you have the signatures, bring them to me, and I'll file. I don't trust Aiden." I nod, smiling and then taking my leave. Noah walks silently behind me, having not said a word. When we get into the car, I read through the divorce paperwork. Tyler really is a great lawyer; it's exactly as I told him.
"Can we make a stop before we head to get the keys?" I ask him, not taking my eyes off the papers.
"Of course," He says softly.
"My old house," I turn and look at him, and notice he's clenching his teeth, but he nods anyway.
We drive there in silence, and when we pull up and notice the car in the driveway, I tense. We sit for a full minute before I start to leave the car. Noah does the same. I put my hand on his arm.
"You can wait out here," I tell him, and he turns and glares at me.
"No way in hell am I letting you go in there alone." He says before adding, "Justin would actually murder me." Right, Justin. I nod, and we exit the car and head into the house.
"Jenn! Where have you been? I've been calling you and looking everywhere for you!" Aiden comes running up to me as soon as I step through the door, grabbing my arm hard, "Do you know how anxious I was? You can't do that!" He yells, and I feel myself tense under his hand and his stare. The next thing I knew, Aiden was thrown into the wall next to us. I blink, gasping.
Noah stands over him, punching him repeatedly in the face. I stare in shock before I realize that Noah will kill him. Running over on shaking feet, I grab Noah's arm, he shakes me off, and continues.
"Noah!" I yell, absolutely terrified of what was happening, "Noah, you have to stop, you can't kill him." I push him with all my might, though I'm small, I was able to get enough strength to push him and myself to the side of Aiden. Noah blinks at me, breathing heavy. I stare at him through large eyes.
"Noah?" I ask softly, hoping he wouldn't get back up to attack Aiden. Aiden groans and rolls over, and Noah's attention snaps back to him. He gets up, grabs Aiden by the collar of his shirt, and throws him against the wall. I scramble to my feet, going after Noah.
"You even think about touching her again, and I will rip your arms off and beat you with them. You'll beg for death. Do you understand me?" Noah growls in his face, and Aiden looks barely conscious under all the blood, but nods his head. Noah drops him to the ground. I stand there staring at Noah with unblinking eyes.
Noah walks towards me slowly, "Jenn?" He calls out softly, "Are you hurt?" He makes it to me and looks me up and down as though making sure I was okay.
"Noah?" I ask, I couldn't think of anything else to say, I had no words. I am shaking like a leaf and wasn't sure if I was going to throw up or not. He pulls me to him, wrapping me in his arms. I could tell he's shaking as well, but probably from anger.
"You're okay." He whispers, holding me tighter. I pull back and look at him, touching his face softly.
"Are you okay?" I whisper, he smiles at me, and rubs my arms in an attempt to calm me.
"I'm fine, I'm gonna have to wash my hands. Come with me," He says, grabbing my arm, he leads me to the kitchen and puts me in a chair on the island. I sit silently and watch him as he makes his way to the kitchen sink. He washes his hands, grimacing slightly; he must have hurt his hands.
He dried his hands and then looked at me, "Stay here," he says, and he walks back over towards the front door. I can hear Aiden groaning, and I know he's gonna need a doctor. I hear the front door open and close, and my heart starts beating fast, anxiety rushing through me. Did Noah just leave me? I hear the front door again, and then Noah appears with the papers. I sigh, taking them with shaky hands and putting them on the counter.
I take off my ring and put it on the papers.
"Noah, can we leave?" I ask softly, and he nods, grabbing my hand and pulling me to my feet. He leads me towards the door, and I try to avoid looking at Aiden, who is now sitting up against the wall.
"You're a stupid b***h, Jenn. No one is gonna want you now. I was the only one who wanted a b***h like you! If you think I'm gonna just let this go, you're wrong!" He yells out, spitting out blood on the ground. I stare at him with wide eyes. Is he threatening me? Why can't he just leave me alone?
"Leave me alone, Aiden, please. Sign the papers and leave me alone." I say in a whisper, backing away from him as he tries to stand.
"No, I refuse. You will be punished for this, don't you know who I am?" He starts to walk towards me, Noah pushes me behind him, and then kicks Aiden, making him fall backwards. Aiden screams out.
"Keep talking, and I'll have no problem killing you," Noah says, kicking him in the stomach. Noah then turns, grabs my hand, and drags me out to the car. He puts me in first before going around the other side and getting in himself.
We don't say anything as we drive through the town to go and get my keys. The sun is starting to set, and I couldn't even enjoy the view. My brain has shut down, and I no longer feel anything.
