Chapter15

Gamma Caron leads me and Everett out of the hospital and walks us down a few blocks. There is a fence with an iron gate, a guard on each side. They nod to Gamma as we walk though. “There is only one hospital for serious injuries. Because of your, you were treated in the pack hospital. The T town, short for transition town, has a clinic for anything this is non-life threatening.” He explains. Then points towards the gate. “This is the gate that separates T-town and the pack.” I nod in understanding, keeping an eye on our surroundings. As the walk progresses, my thigh begins to burn, but I push it out of mind. Just a little further, then I can sit. Everett is walking on my side, between Gamma Carson an me, holding my hand. The town is not what I expected. There are a lot of buildings close together to maximize space, but they aren’t dark and gloomy. “T-town has everything one would need in the state of transition. There is a small grocery store and carry out, laundry mat, gym, small park for children, a thrift store, and of course the apartments. There are stages of transition. First stage is acclimation, second is job application in the pack. With this you will have the privilege of working in the pack. Only access is section S, which holds all stores. You will work in section S and once you prove that work and the access to the pack will not be a problem you are allowed to go into other stores in the pack. Sill only in section S though. All else is restricted until you are accepted into the pack.” He explains all of this as we to a 5 story apartment building and wait for an elevator. “Do you have any questions?” He asks, eyeing the side of my face as I stare at the elevator. “When can I look for a job? I need to be able to feed Everett and myself.” I ask quietly, flinching slightly at the thought of him being upset with me asking. He didn’t give me a timeline, just said after acclimation. The elevator dings and we step inside. Everett’s heartbeat skyrockets as he grapples with my legs. I bend to pick him up. “You shouldn’t be..” Gamma Carson begins, but stops when I fully stand with Everett in my arms. Gamma Carson just sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “It’s okay. This is called an elevator. It takes us up and down. Kind of like if you were to climb a tree. This just does it for you.” I explain as we lurch forward and he whimpers. After we make it to floor 4 we step out. Gamma Carson shakes his head as I continue to hold Everett. “Because we know you just came from a pack and some of your situation so I’d like to say in a few days. I know Everett hasn’t been in pack before so you can help him get acquainted with stuff as well. Food will be provided until then. We have a blue card that you show at checkout and the store will keep track of the cost.” He explains as he opens door 4 B and holds it for us to enter. I walk in and see that it is fully furnished. Setting Everett down he looks around with big eyes. “All accommodations in t town are furnished with the basics. After you start working you are able to get decorations and such. There wern’t any 2 bedrooms available, so we gave you a one with a queen size bed. I hope that is alright. We are able to switch it to two twins, if you would like.” “Queen is perfect. It would probably be better for us to sleep together for now anyways.” It takes all of my courage to look at Gamma Carson, well, at his hairline, and say “Thank you”. I just want him to see that even though I am terrified of him, I am eternally grateful for this opportunity and for the opportunity to keep Everett. I see the warm smile and slight crinkle of his eyes. “Of course. We try to help people where we can.” He looks around, then back at me, his brow creasing slightly. “I will be back tomorrow to check on you. You are free to do whatever you would like and if anything happens, please let me know.” I nod. “Yes, Gamma.” He sighs again. “Amona. I really hope that we are able to be friends someday. Our pack is close, but your new sister in law and I grew up tormenting each other. Her and Ella’s family and mine are close, and knowing that family they will adopt you and Everett right in. Therefore we will see a lot of each other. SOOOO I now have a new mission and it is called MACETBF.” He says, passionately. Even though I am not looking into his eyes, I can read the sincerity on his face. “MACETBF?” I ask, crinkling my face in confusion. His answering smile could light up a whole block. “Make Amona Comfortable Enough To Be Friends. MACE TBF” I snort, unable to help myself and his smile, I swear, grows wider. “SEE! Practically there already.” He says and nods towards the apartment. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Have a good night. There is a folder on the counter with more details and the phone to call me or the guardshack is hanging on the wall toward your right.” He says, ping toward the phone, then waving and leaving. Saying goodbye to Everett on the way out. Well he is a person who definitely can make you forget how important he his. His aura was pulled back, to make me comfortable, which is a surprise. Maybe this pack is different. Maybe I’ll be able to get over my fear of speaking to higher ranking wolves. Maybe here I’ll be normal.
