I was a fool. That was the only explanation for me trying to sneak out of the compound. I supposed I could have used the main entrance, but without knowing what waited for me in the oasis, that didn"t seem like the best idea. But my curiosity had gotten the better of me. I pulled my head scarf lower over my face in an attempt to obscure my features. I wasn"t sure it would work very well if anyone knew me, but I was counting on the fact they didn"t. Even so, it was a gamble. And if I was caught, it wasn"t going to be easy to explain what I was doing in a way that would actually get me out of trouble.
