Chapter 6 Ella and I slept in on Saturday compared to a school day anyway, but not too late. We headed down to the kitchen looking for coffee and breakfast. Mom and Dad are still at the table finishing their breakfast and mom gets both of us muffins and fruit and puts it on the table while I get our coffee. Dad starts asking about our night; “how did you ladies sleep? Good” we answer at the same time and then giggle a little. “Watch any good movies?” Ella answers this time; “yes, but nothing scary you know our Frankie, we kept it all rom-com”. Now dad and Ella laugh at that response. Mom jumps to the conversation, “any plans for today? Actually Mama reed” Ella starts, “would it be ok if Frankie came with me to the mall, for outfits for graduation and the parties after?” I look at Ella, as she knows how my parents are about letting me out of their sight, but she is still looking back and for the between my parents looking hopeful. Mom and dad share a look before mom takes a deep breath; “well, only if Frankie is willing to get a dress for her birthday party that will be next weekend too.” Dad cuts in immediately; “yes so you will need to make sure she gets 2 nice dresses, new jeans, and a couple casual outfits for the week and some meetings in the next couple of weeks. Do you think you can handle that Ella?” Wait did my mom and dad just agree to me going to the mall without them? And with that dad just asked Ella to make sure I bought a lot of clothes. Who are these people? “Oh yes Daddy Reed”, Ella squealed. I have to say Ella has a way with my parents and the Mama and Daddy with the last name for respect gets her a ton of milage. Once we are done with our coffee, Dad gives Ella a list and his gold card and asks if she’s good or does he need to go over it with her? She laughs and looks over the list only asking one question about colors and how formal for the dresses. When Dad is done with Ella we head up and get ready for a day out. Sporting our jeans and crop tops and sandals, we jumped into Ella’s car and off to the mall. I can’t help but turn down the music and ask Ella, “what the hell do you think my rents are up to?” Ella thinks for a moment, then shrugs, “I have no idea. The whole morning was strange. Do you think aliens abducted them and left these pods in their place?” We both laugh at her idea, but then I can’t help but think something is up. “Are you sure you’re not in on something with them?” I give her my ‘I know when you’re lying look’, but she doesn’t crack. We make it to the mall, and I set the thoughts aside.
