(Flint)
I wait impatiently at a small metal table nestled between two trees that border the diner’s patio seating. A spring breeze billows through the the leaves, swishing them in a soft rhythm. The small town of Silver Crest is alive and thriving on this unusually warm and sunny day. Spring is always the busiest time of year here. Alaska can be brutal, but late spring turned our frozen world into a blooming paradise. Many townsfolk had decided to ditch their motor vehicles to walk along the flower-decorated sidewalks, soaking in the sunshine while it’s here. Summer was just around the corner, bringing three short months of reasonable climate to finish various projects in.
My girlfriend, and lifelong best friend, Kaylee, is due to finish her shift at 4pm, and it’s 3:58. Today is our sixth anniversary and I’ve planned something special for us to celeberate.
When I turned 18 and we realized we weren’t true mates, I was devastated. I swore one day she would leave me for good and I’d lose her forever. Kaylee promised me that once she finished college we could get engaged and that she would be my chosen mate without a second thought. She’s a sweet and gentle soul, I know she will make the perfect wife and future Luna of Silver Crest.
My leg shakes up and down nervously and I run a hand through the black curls on top my head, breaking some of them loose from the gel I put in them earlier. When I was younger, I had my head shaved for a while but hated how much I looked like my biological father and decided I would never have my hair buzzed like that again. He had toyed with my mother for years before she gave birth to me, and nearly turned me against my actual family for his own sick reasons. It took some patience from my family, and a lot of intensive therapy, but I was able to overcome the trauma of what he put me through, of what he put all of us through.
A young girl, probably in her mid teens, walks by on the sidewalk and gives me a flirtatious wave. I nod my head respectfully and pretend to check my phone. It’s not uncommon to get attention from girls when I’m out in public, aside from being the future alpha, I like to think I’m a fairly handsome guy, I have my mother’s green eyes but a paler complexion. My body is tall and sturdy, I train quite often with my Anaana and brothers.
Anaana means mother in the native language of our ancestors, and that’s what she is. Anaana is my other mom, my parents are lesbian, the first ever royalty to be this way. Naana is the true Alpha and who I’ll be inheriting my crown from. In five short years, I will be King of all werewolves and Alpha of the royal pack. I will rule over every pack and make sure our laws are being followed. It’s a hefty job but I’ve been preparing for it my entire life, and when the time comes I’ll be ready, with my beautiful bride by my side. Maybe even a child or two. Kaylee wants to wait until she’s finished college before having any babies, but I’m sure once we’re married and settled into life together she’ll come to realize that a baby will be exactly what we , what I need to make sure nothing will ever pull us apart. It will also help better my claim to the crown. Some people out there don’t believe I should be the king since I’m not Naana’s first true born son. My mom gave birth to me, so technically I’m not of Silver Crest descent. It doesn’t matter what any of them say though, Naana’s word is law, and she declared me the heir before I was even a year old.
The door to the diner opens, breaking my train of thought. My heart beats a little faster as Kaylee steps out. Even in her work uniform, she’s an angel. Soft, honey colored hair falls in gentle curls down her shoulders, stopping just above her chest. I love when she wears it down, letting those loose ringlets of sunshine frame her angelic face.
I swallow harshly as she approaches, an excited smile on her heart shaped lips.
“Hey babe, what are you doing here?” Kaylee’s melancholy voice fills my ears like a symphony. We’ve been together since we were freshmen in high school but I’ve been in love with her for as long as I can remember. Even now, the thought of spending my life with her gives me goosebumps and sends my heart soaring.
I stand up and wrap an arm around her small waist. She’s several inches shorter than me, with the frame of an athlete. Kaylee has always stayed fit, she was the best one on the swim team and won the Chickaloon Dash every year. The dash is when the best teams in southern Alaska do a charity race in the Ocean. They have to swim 120 yards into the frigid ocean and back again. Even with wetsuits on it’s an unbearably cold and difficult race that many aren’t able to finish. Each swimmer picks a charity and the winner gets a prize donated to that charity.
“I’m here to pick you up, gorgeous. I wanted to surprise you.” I kiss the top of Kaylee’s head and she melts into my side.
“Awe Babe you’re so sweet! What are we going to do first?” Gray-blue eyes peer up at me through her impossibly long eyelashes.
I pull her towards the back of the building and into the tree line. “I was thinking we would start with a run in the woods.”
She bites her lip playfully and starts walking faster, getting out of view of the street. “Only if you’re ‘it’ first.” Kaylee gives me a mischievous wink and leaps into the air, shifting into her wolf Rose as she lands and sprints away.
A crooked smile spreads across my face. “I love playing tag with you.” I mumble and follow her lead, morphing effortlessly. My wolf, Drago, switches into control with ease and sprints after Rose.
Within minutes Rose’s tawny body comes into view. She’s running with all her might, trying her best to be faster than us. Silly girl, she must know by now we always catch her. Drago teases. We slow down a bit to admire the way she runs. Rose’s gait is long and efficient, her tan legs pumping away as her paws dig into the earth. She reminds me of how Kaylee looks when she’s in the water, strong and powerful, but so, so graceful.
Drago pushes us closer, so close I could reach out and snag her by the tail and end our game. But we’re not ready yet. As I approach her side, she looks at me once and suddenly hurdles herself to the left, disappearing again into the foliage. I growl with excitement and go after her. She’s heading towards our home. An anticipated whine comes out and I force myself to keep control. I can smell why she’s decided to cut our run short; she wants me. Her aroma fills my nostrils and I want to go into a frenzy over her body. We reach the back step to our little two bedroom cottage and I’m barely shifted back into my body when I burst through the door behind her.
Kaylee stands before me in the doorway of our bedroom, her naked body glistening with sweat as her chest heaves up and down.
I move towards her slowly, taking in all of her beauty. “Tag, you’re it.” I murmur and swoop her into my arms. Her legs wrap around my waist and her wet center rubs against my lower stomach. Claiming her mouth with mine, we fall backwards into the bed together, with me on top of her. Kaylee doesn’t like being on top, or taking it from behind. She’s very particular when it comes to s*x and I do exactly what she wants. No ‘strange’ positions, no holding her head when she’s doing oral, and no kissing her after I’ve gone down on her.
I groan with pleasure as I slide into her, moving my hips slowly at first, rotating in circles and allowing for Kaylee to warm up to me. Finally she hooks her legs around my waist and grabs hold of my shoulders, signaling to me she’s ready. My pace speeds up and I bend down to kiss her bare collarbone, my teeth light grazing where I’m so desperate to mark her as mine forever.
Kaylee’s fingers touch my cheek and she redirects my mouth to her neck, a little whimper escapes her as I suck on the sensitive skin behind her ear, and I can feel her starting to get close.
“That’s it baby, come for me.” I whisper into her ear and she falls apart underneath me, her back arching off the bed for seconds before relaxing onto the sheets under her. My own climax approaches and I pull out of her, spilling my seed all over her toned stomach. She hates when my c*m touches her but I couldn’t help it, I nearly came wrapped up in the warmth of her tight walls.
With a satisfied sigh, I roll onto the bed next to her and hold out my arm. Kaylee giggles and curls into my side, laying her head on my naked chest. “That was nice.” I chuckle to her and she nods in agreement, still trying to catch her breath. “Oh I almost forgot something.” Sitting up slightly, I reach over and open my nightstand drawer, pulling out a small black box. As I return to my place on the bed, I lay the box on my stomach in front of Kaylee’s face.
Her body goes stiff against mine. “What’s that Flint?” My heart races as I use my free hand to open it. Inside is a beautiful engagement ring I had made for her. The diamond in the middle is princess cut, and the metal around it is rose gold.
“I know you said we needed to wait to get married until you finish your teaching degree and I understand that, I really do. But I couldn’t wait to propose to you any longer baby girl. We don’t have to get married now, it’s just an engagement ring. But I do want to ask you something.” My tongue feels like sandpaper as I muster up the courage. Gently, I wrap my fingers around her chin and pull her head to face me. “Kaylee Ann Graves, will you do me the honor of agreeing to be my wife?” My voice shakes on the last word, and I kick myself mentally for not being stronger, calmer.
Kaylee stares at me for a long time and with each passing second I regret this more and more.
Finally, her mouth breaks into a smile. “Of course I’ll marry you Flint Dean Kingston.”
My excitement becomes overwhelming and I press my mouth tightly against hers, getting lost in the taste of my fiancé.
