CHAPTER 13
HANNAH~
The cat is warm against my chest and I don’t care that people are staring as I hold it, Nate is behind.
I walk down the sidewalk singing under my breath, the same song my mom used to hum when I was little and couldn’t sleep.
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…”
The orange tabby blinks up at me like she’s considering the lyrics. A woman with a stroller does a double take. A guy in a delivery vest actually slows down to watch. I keep singing. The cat doesn’t seem to mind the attention and neither do I.
Nate catches up after half a block and falls into step beside me, still leaving extra space like the animal might suddenly explode.
“You know people can hear you, right?”
“That’s the point. She likes it.”
“She’s a cat.”
“And she has taste.”
He stops walking so
