Chapter 6: The GovernorCOLE WOKE THE following morning to some voices in the living room. He laid in his bed for another 20 minutes or so before reluctantly rolling over and pulling on last night’s clothes. Out in the living room, two men in suits sat at the couch and turned, nodding to Cole before going back to doing nothing much. In the kitchen, Cole poured himself a cup of coffee and asked the men if they’d like some. They each shook their heads no, uncomfortable with their current surroundings.
Cole asked, “Y’all seen Tony?”
One of them looked upstairs for a moment, then back down at Cole, before ignoring the question.
Cole continued, “Well, I for one am hung-OVER and could use some breakfast. Eggs?”
