The next morning they were awakened by vigorous knocking at the door. Robert broke into a sweat. Cara felt a surge of anxiety. One of their neighbors must have heard them arguing and called the cops, they thought. It turned out to be something much more unsettling. The police were called because of a man prowling in the shadows outside their house. He was ducking in and out of the bushes. No one heard Cara or Robert yelling.
