Next morning.
Aanandhi was asked to cook “KHEER”. She was stirring the Kheer thinking something very deep. Zaara came running towards her shouting at Aunty. Aanandhi smiled at her and helped her to sit on the kitchen slab.
Zaara: Good morning Aunty…
Aanandhi(smilingly): Good morning….
Zaara: I’m so happy that you came here permanently.
Aanandhi: Why?
Zaara: Because I got you to play hide and seek.
Aanandhi(excitedly): do you like hide and seek?
Zaara: Very much. Will we play?
Aanandhi: Sure.
Zaara: Friends? (she extended her hand for a shake)
Aanandhi: Friends. They shook hands.
Zaara: I saw you thinking something when I came here. What was that?
Aanandhi(nodded no): Nothing.
Zaara: Seems to be something. Aunty, you can ask me anything. I will help you with everything.
Aanandhi: Really?
Zaara: Yes, because we are friends.
Aanandhi (whispering): What is it meant by “Damn it?”
Zaara looked at Aanandhi, widening her eyes. She understood what made her ask so. After all, it’s one of her Uncle’s favorite dialogues. He should have uttered it in front of Aanandhi. So she is asking the meaning. What could she say? That’s when she saw Nirupama coming inside the kitchen.
Niru: Have you finished Aanandhi?
Aanandhi nodded yes. Nirupama looked at Zaara, who was thinking what to answer.
Niru: Zaara, what are you thinking?
Zaara: Small Grandma, Aunty wants to know the meaning of “Damn it”. She said controlling her smile.
Niru( chuckling): ohhh…That one? It’s nothing Aanandhi. Damnit means “I Love You”.
Zaara giggled, closing her mouth. Mythili, who came there, also chuckled while Aanandhi became agitated. She rushed out of the kitchen embarrassed.
Zaara (teasingly): Small Grandma, Aunty is going to see how Uncle is in love with KP uncle.
Saying that, she ran away from there, leaving Mythili and Nirupama to burst out laughing.
……
Aanandhi rooted at the doorstep after hearing Arshad’s phone talk. She was gazing at him, not getting anything.
Arshad: Do what I said DAMN IT. You are not getting a salary to question me. I want you to send me the report via mail in an hour.
He cut the call in frustration and saw Aanandhi looking at him. He smiled at seeing her.
Aanandhi: Who was on the phone? She asked slowly.
Arshad: My PA. Sadhana..
Aanandhi(shocked): Whaat! Was that a girl?
Arshad: Haa… he said, shrugging his shoulders.
Aanandhi’s eyes teared up instantly.
Aanandhi: If you are “Damn it” with your PA, then why did you marry me?
Arshad(frowning): What? I’m “Damn it” with my PA? What do you mean?
Aanandhi(crying): I got to know about you. You are in “damn it” with another girl.
Arshad stood there frowning, didn’t get anything. Mythili, who was crossing their room, heard it. She rushed inside panicking.
Aanandhi: Mythili, You said your brother is a good person. See, he is in love with someone.
Arshad(shockingly): Whaaaat? Am I in love with someone? Who the hell told you?
Aanandhi: I heard you saying that?
Arshad was looking at her with hell confusion. When did he say so?
Aanandhi: Mythili, I heard him saying “damn it” to his PA Sadhana.
Mythili closed her eyes sighing.
Mythili: Chinni I’m really sorry. Aunty said that to make fun when Aanandhi asked the meaning of “Damn it”.
Arshad switched his gaze towards Aanandhi unbelievably.
Mythili: Aanandhi, Aunty said that for fun. Actually, it’s not its real meaning. Chinni uses the word when he gets irritated. So she didn’t want to make you upset by saying that. But it became an issue before we cleared it for you. I’m sorry.
Mythili looked at Arshad worriedly and she couldn’t believe what she was witnessing could be true. She saw Arshad laughing, holding his stomach, and she had never seen him laugh like that. He stopped seeing Aanandhi gazing at him.
Mythili: Chinni, I’m really happy to see you happy.
Arshad: Interesting…. He said smirking.
Mythili: You should drop Aanandhi at SH after breakfast.
Arshad nodded yes and Mythili left.
Aanandhi (hesitatingly): I’m sorry I misunderstood. I don’t know the meaning of “Damn it” and you uttered it last night. So I asked them.
Arshad: So what if I love someone? He asked smilingly.
Aanandhi: How could anyone love more than one? (she asked, pouting.)
Arshad: One? Who is that?
Aanandhi: Who else? It’s me. Your wife. She stopped and looked at him horrified.
Arshad folded his hand over the chest. She was looking here and there except Arshad.
Arshad: So, according to you, my love belongs to only you? (Aanandhi looked at him gulping) I’m so glad that you have no problem with that.
He said with his lopsided smile and went, leaving Aanandhi with an uncontrolled heartbeat.
Dining
Raut's gathered at the dining hall. Aanandhi’s kheer was liked by them very much. Aanandhi kept the kheer bowl in front of Arshad. She was perplexed seeing everyone looking at her. Mythili was about to tell her that “Arshad is a Diabetic”.
Arshad took a spoon full of kheer and tasted it. It was indeed delicious. He ate one more spoon and it made everyone awe.
Niru: Arshad, why are you eating double sugared kheer?
Aanandhi looked at her confusingly.
Mythili: Aanandhi, Chinni should not eat sweets. He is a diabetic.
Arshad: It’s ok Sis. How could she know?
Aanandhi looked at him sadly. Her eyes literally became wet. Everyone was astonished to see her spilling tears.
Grandma: Aanandhi, please don’t cry.
Aanandhi: Seems like he likes sweets so much but….she wiped her cheek.
Arshad rolled his eyes smiling. He ate the keer just because he didn’t want to deny her first preparation. But she took it wrong.
Nanai: Aanandhi, go and get ready. You have to go to SH.
Aanandhi’s face brightened up literally. She ran to their room to get ready for SH gladly. She saw Arshad coming inside.
Aanandhi (feeling sad): I’m sorry, I gave you sweets.
Arshad: It’s ok.
Aanandhi: you like sweets so much. Don’t you?
Arshad: No.
Aanandhi: Then why didn’t you deny it when I gave you it?
Arshad: I just don’t want to upset you by denying it. That’s why.
Aanandhi: But it’s not good for your health.
Arshad: It won’t harm if I eat one or two spoons.
Aanandhi (feeling relief): Really?
Arshad(nodded yes): Yah.
Aanandhi: Then ask me if you feel like eating sweets some days.
Arshad (smilingly): Sure. Let’s go.
Aanandhi nodded yes and followed Arshad.
Arshad dropped Aanandhi at SH. He waited for a while expecting her to call him inside but she didn’t even mind looking at him at least once. Arshad nodded his head left to right smilingly and started the car towards RM.
SH
Aanandhi rushed to Mahima and hugged her as if she had been separated from her for many years with teary eyes. Mahima also got emotional as that was the first time she lived without Aanandhi. No matter if it was just for a night.
Mahima(composing herself): How did you come? Who brought you here?
That’s when Aanandhi sensed there was a soul who came to drop her. She rushed and looked outside. She saw no one there.
Aanandhi: He is gone.
Mahima: who?
Aanandhi: Him.
Mahima: Who was that?
Aanandhi(hesitating):Arshad.
Mahima: didn’t you call him inside?
Aanandhi (nodded no): I forgot to call him.
Mahima: My God…. Why are you like this Aanandhi? Don’t you know what he feels? She said helplessly.
Arunita: Oh my crazy girl…. When will you learn all these things? Poor Arshad. He thinks a lot about us, but you?
Aanandhi: What does he think about us?
Mahima: He wants us to shift to Mumbai right away so that we will be near you.
Aanandhi(hopping): Are you shifting to Mumbai with me?
Mahima: yes.
Aanandhi: I’m so happy Mom. Thank you so much.
Mahima: If you want to thank anyone, then thank your husband. He is the one who wanted that just because he wants you to be happy.
Aanandhi: But why didn’t you say that to me before yourself?
Arunita: It’s because you will start nudging us to do it right away.
Aanandhi pouted at her. Mahima dragged her to the coach and made Aanandhi sit with her.
Mahima: Aanandhi, you should not be like this anymore. I hope you have understood their status by now. They are not only rich but also have a very big reputation in society. It’s not easy to be Raunt's daughter-in-law. You have to learn things from people. It will help you gain a good name among your in-laws. Don’t give any chance to people to taunt you at your upbringing ever. If you do so, then you are allowing people to pull your mother’s respect. And on top of all, you should not let your husband feel low about marrying you. You should obey your husband’s words. You shouldn’t hide anything from him no matter what. You should be the most loyal person to him. You ought to make him proud of you. You should only eat with him, wait until he comes from the office. Ok? (Aanandhi nodded ok)
She was thinking all the time about what her mother advised her. She gulped hard. Seems like her husband is not that bad. He wanted her Mom and Aunty to come to Mumbai. Doesn’t he seem good? And adding to that, she had taught him about GOOD TOUCH and BAD TOUCH. What if he told Raut's about it? Will they scold her for not letting him touch her? She became nervous.
RM
Arshad came after dropping Aanandhi at SH. Raut's was in the living room with Anoop and Loli chitchatting about the DAMN IT issue. Arshad sat with them smilingly.
Arshad: Sis, I want to tell you something.
Everyone looked at him shutting the topic up.
Mythili: Tell me Chinni.
Arshad: I can’t believe a girl can be without knowing what the meaning of “damn it” is. And she believed when Aunty said Damn it means "I love you". How innocent she is.
Anoop: Cool buddy. She will learn.
Arshad (raising his eyebrows): How?
Mythili: We will teach her Chinni.
Arshad: No Sis. I have decided something.
Grandma (with tension): What’s that Chinni? Hope it won’t hurt her.
Arshad( nodding no): We can’t sit quietly until she learns. So…. I decided to send her to college. (Anoop, Loli, NK, Naina, Ishaan smiled happily while Grandma, Aunty, Mythili and Kunal spared a surprise glance.)
Mythili: But Chinni….
Arshad(stopping her by showing his palm): It will help her to see the world on her own. Let her change learning everything by herself.
Mythili: But she is so innocent, people may make fun of her Chinni. It will drag her confidence down.
Loli(cutting her): I will be there for Aanandhi if she joins our college.
NK: Of course. I will also protect my sister-in-law as a senior. He said with excitement.
Arshad: Problem solved.
Kunal: But Loli joined BBA. It will be tough for Aanandhi. How can Aanandhi cope with the course? After all, she is from a small village and she doesn’t know English, which is necessary for BBA.
Arshad: Let her do it. Why should we up her talent?
Anoop: You are right, ASR. We can’t look down on someone’s talent.
Loli: Why are you guys worrying? I’m here for Aanandhi. Cool.
Mythili looked tensed.
Mythili: I don’t think it will work.
Arshad: How can we say without trying? We will think about alternative solutions if she struggles.
Mythili: I’m nervous.
Arshad: Relax Sis. Everything will be alright.
Mythili nodded yes worriedly.
