Thank you, but I see that it's raining. Yes, I know it's hot. It's still Summer. That's how Summer works. But at the same time, I'm not going to tell you anything about me. You'll never know what made me, me. I'll never tell you how I got my scars. Because what made me, isn't something I want to relive. My scars are to deep to even scratch the surface of what's wrong. All that pain is hidden. But you don't care. The second I tear my defenses away. The moment I let you in, there's no going back. And I'm not willing to risk it. So my scars will stay hidden. My past will remain unvisited. And the moment you reach my barriers, I'll set up a new army to run you away. Because I'm drowning in my own fortress. And I miss me. I dont remember how to be myself anymore. ○●○ "Okay, so I was thinking maybe baby blue-No! Sage. How about sage green, kind of a mellow vibe." I can't help the small grin that takes over my mouth. Cameron Cleva. My best friend for over seven years. A very energetic ball of blonde energy. And the one currently FaceTimeing me, to give me suggestions about the color of my new room. "What do you think? It would go with some of the posters you have. And we could go all out! New comforter, fluffy pillows, and lots and lots of blankets!" This time I laugh. How can you not. "Elora! This is serious. I want to be prepared for when you come." She pouts through the camera. "Cam, I haven't even stepped foot in this room yet. How am I going to know what color I want it?" I bring my knee up under my chin, relaxing into my desk chair. It's still pouring rain outside, been like that since this morning and it is currently 10 p.m. Cam scoffs at my comment, "so what? Think of how cool it will be to get here and already have all your room supplies ready for you -and me, to decorate." Okay that does sound less stressful. And with this move, the least amount of stress is better. My mom really did want to stay here in Arizona, but we can't afford it anymore. My dad died. There's no way to sugar coat it, no way to soften it up. It's the cold hard truth. But ever since he died everything's been trickier to maintain. And my mom tried, she really did. But it wasn't enough. We aren't complete without him. He was the center of this family. So to save money, and get through this, we are going to go live with Ms. Cleva, Cams mom, in California. She and my mom have been friends ever since Cam and I's very first sleepover. She ended up staying for 4 hours just talking to Ms. Cleva. I don't mind the move. Everything here seems dull without dad. As if the world's lost its color. So a new setting would be helpfull, help me forget what happened. I'm so lost in my thoughts I almost miss when Cam starts talking again. "So? I can get all the materials just let me know what you want. I'm trying to make this trip as easy as possible." My throat tightens at the sentiment, god, what would I do without her. "Okay, yeah. That sounds amazing. Thank you. Sage green vibes it is." "Yes! I can't wait to room right beside you! What would you do without me." She says readjusting her phone to be propped up on her desk like mine is. She flops onto her bed, opening her laptop and starts scrolling through sage green asethics. I laugh. "I have no clue. I'll see you in a few days though." "That's right! How's packing going anyways?" She ask with a tilt of her head. Popping back up into a sitting position. I turn my head, looking at all the open boxes lying around. With my clothes scattered everywhere. "Uh, it's getting there." I say with a grimace, turning back to my phone. "You haven't even started have you?" She replies with a sly grin "Hey! I packed a few books, here and there." I defend, even though by a few I mean just my favorites that I want to make sure are safe. "Uh huh, and everything else?" She's full on grinning now. "Aren't you supposed to be doing homework!" I raise my eyebrows. Cam scrunches up her face, "ugh, buzz kill. And no, I finished it yesterday. It's still ridiculous to assign homework over summer break." I laugh putting my knee back on the floor, and stretching in my chair. "Agreed." I say on a yawn. "Anyways, im gonna keep searching ideas for your new room -which we will be shopping for when you get here." She states matter a factly. "And you are going to finish packing you room." She gives me a pointed look. I roll my eyes. "Now who's the buzz kill?" She rolls her eyes right back, "have fun! I love you. See you soon." She gives me an air kiss. "Bye, love you." We hang up, and I look around at my tornado of a room and sigh. This is gonna be a long night. ○●○ Ahhh, first chapter done! What'd you think?
