10. INTERVIEW

693 Words
Getting out of bed, I started my daily routine. Getting to the address the boss gave me would take around 45 minutes, so I should be ready to go by 9. I had already booked my ride last night. I like to take my time getting ready for my work. I have never done things in a rush since that accident 5 years ago. Around 8 o’clock I was done with my things and breakfast arrived. I instructed the waiter to set my breakfast on the balcony. Once, the waiter was out of my room. I seated myself and enjoyed my food. I have been foody all my life and have a sweet tooth, but I used to skip lunch and dinner due to my job. Picking bites of food in between my work has become my habit, Breakfast is the only time I enjoy my food and do not rush things. How much has life changed or, should I say, how much I have changed from a carefree, immature, pampered girl to a mature, planning life person, A successful wage earner-many envie me, but only I know what price I have paid. This was not the life I dreamed of. “Buzz” “buzz” My ringing phone got my attention from reception, informing me that my car and the driver were waiting for me downstairs. It was almost 9, so I packed my bag and headed downstairs. The house was located on the city's outskirts, surrounded by a mini forest. Many generations of this family lived here, and they have relations with the royal family of Himachal. Many generations have served in the army. That is the only information I was able to gather. I was in thought when the driver stopped the car. A guard came to inquire. I gave him my ID and informed him about my appointment. He made a call, and the big gate opened. It was not right to call it a house. It was a small castle surrounded by greenery and armed guards and cameras. I got out of my car and soon a staff member welcomed me, and I followed him. It was magnificent. The entire building had an essence of timelessness. The hall was filled with antique guns and photographs of uniformed men. I didn’t recognize any of them, but they looked handsome and hot. After walking through two big halls, Buttler escorted me to a room on the right and asked me to sit there and wait. This room could be called a mini library as it was filled with books. The beautiful oil painting on the wall was a great work of art. I know to get all these things one needs money and connections. These things clearly say one-word power and thus made me realize I had to be extra careful. As I was going through the décor of the room, a strong and magnetic voice entered my ears “. Miss Singh”. I turned to answer but froze. I couldn’t believe my eyes. A lot of thoughts came to my mind. I wanted to ask so much but lost my voice. I was hallucinating. Maybe, yes, it can’t be true. The man I thought died 5 years ago was standing right in front of me. How is this possible? We both stood there staring straight into one another’s eyes but none of us said anything. Soon the butler entered the room and informed me that the interview would have to be rescheduled, as Mr Baldev Singh had a very important meeting scheduled and had already left. It took all my strength to walk past him and leave the mansion. I don’t remember how I reached my room and how long I just sat there. No tears came this time. I did not even realize that it was completely dark outside and was sitting soulless in the dark when my phone rang and brought me back to my senses. It was a private number. I stared at the phone but did not pick up. I don’t know why, but I was scared to pick up this call.
