Chapter One

2510 Words
“What the f**k did this girl Ariel do?” I said as I talked to Timothy over the phone. I watched her walk out of her apartment in the lower east side. Her long red hair shined as she walked to her car. He sighed, “Does it really matter, Slate. What she did or didn’t do?”       She started up her car then back out of the parking lot as I started to follow her, “I mean. I am usually going after the big bad wolf, but I've been watching her for weeks to find the perfect time to grab her up. I am not seeing the connection on why this guy wants her.”   She has been taking the same route to the animal shelter for weeks now. She will stop at the same coffee stop for a quick pick me up.       Timothy cleared his throat, “Her last name is Kingsley. Not Smith” My eyes got big, “As in the Kingsley’s. The family that owns like half the world.” My hands gripped on the steering wheel as Timothy confirmed it, “That is the one.”       I shook my head as I followed her about three cars behind, “That still doesn’t explain why I was hired for this.” I took a turn into the park next to the shelter where I can see her park and walk with her white coat that is now on her into the shelter, “It is not her. It is her father. She is the insurance for her father to sign a damn contract.”       I shook my head as I got out of my car and leaned against the hood, “All this for a damn contract.” Timothy paused for a moment, “Not exactly.” I tilted my head to the sky ready to scream, “Timothy?” He cleared his throat, “All I can tell you is that her father slept with the client’s mother years ago so, in return the client’s father slept with her mother.” I shook my head, “Okay what does that have to do with today.”       He chuckled as I watched the children play on the playground that was nearby, “Well, his father fell in love with her mother. Wanting to get her away from him. Ariel’s father is not the nicest guy to meet.” I nodded my head in agreement. I had my fair shares of running in with him on jobs. Timothy sighed, “Well, Client’s parents got divorce and Her mother found out she was pregnant with her. And from what I can tell in the pictures that I have of her. She looks awful like the client.” I snorted, “So he sends me. The big bad wolf, to get her for him.”       I shook my head, “He is not sure if she is or isn’t. He wants me to get DNA from her to run it. But more that he wants to use his possible sister for revenge for the death of his mother and his father’s lover.” I walked towards the edge of the parking lot of the shelter, “So, her mother is dead.” I shook my head as he told me yes, “Goddamnit Timothy this is why I didn’t want to go in blind. I need to know this s**t so I can see how I play this out.” He chuckled, “If I told you who she really was, would you take the job.” I shook my head, “Probably not.”       He sighed, “Listen, I prefer that you grab her up then some slime ball that would take advantage of her before passing her the client. Oh, though the client seems to be a slime ball himself.” I raised my eyebrow as I watched Ariel come out of the shelter as she was walking one of the dogs, “What do you mean?”       I turned and walked back to my car before she saw me when Timothy said something that stopped me in my tracks, “Even though there is a possibility of his father being her father, he said quote, I wouldn’t mind placing her legs over my shoulders to f**k the hell out of her. She is a splitting image of her mother.”       I gave him a low growl, “And you want me to pass her off to him.” He chuckled, “Kind of.” I shook my head as I slowly turned my head to see if she was still outside, “What do you mean kind of?” He sighed, “After he told me that he wanted to f**k his sister if she is. It got me thinking. I place you in place to be her little protector. That is why I called the big bad wolf.”       I got into my car thinking of just driving away and leaving it all behind when he continues, “Slate, I need you to grab her, keep her with you. When the client calls to confirm, delay confirming. Tell him that you have an eye on her. I need to do some more digging into this asshole life before we blindly hand over an innocent person like this.”       I shook my head as my hand went the steering wheel hard, “What the f**k, Timothy?” He sighed as I looked into the rearview mirror as Ariel looked up at my car and tilted her head, “Slate, Please. If someone else gets on this. They are not going to care what happens to her. You always said that the person has to be dirty for you to handle dirty work. Now, let me see what work you do with someone that is clean. She has no ties to her father’s businesses. That is the little slut sister of hers that does.”       I shook my head, “I will protect her. But I am telling you I am not liking this one bit. I know that I am going to have to get rough with her to keep up appearances to make sure she stays in line, but I am not liking this.” Timothy chuckled, “Just don’t get too rough unless you are planning to have her in bed with you.” I threw my head back as I watched her little ass walk back to the clinic with the little dog, “I am not going to lie to you. If she gives me the word, I will be f*****g her every second that I can.” Timothy let out a roar, “At least you may not be related to her.” I almost puked in my mouth, “You are a very sick man, you know that.”       Helena called out to me as I rushed to my office, “Ariel?” I looked back at her, “Give five minutes then I will see the next patient.” She nodded as I slammed the door. I called my dear old father. “Ariel, What a surprise?” I snorted, “This is not a happy let’s make up and be a family call.”       He sighed as I looked through some papers, “What is it then?” I looked up at the ceiling, “Did you piss someone off lately or do you have someone following me?” He gave me a low growl that made my skin tremble, “What are you talking about?” I shook my head, “It's probably nothing but I swear, I have seen the same car for the past couple weeks sitting outside my office.” He sighed, “Probably someone taking their dog for a daily walk and they found the park near your office.”       I held up an x-ray of a poor beagle leg. It was broken in three places from falling from a high window, “You probably right. I just know that some of your business deals are not on the up and up, so I just wanted to make sure.”  He sighed, “Of course, Ariel. But when are you going to stop playing doctor for animals and come home where you belong?” I squeezed my eyes shut, “Why so you can spoil Kara and beat the s**t out of me again? I am done with that. You can’t put our hands on me again.” He raised his voice, “You are my daughter, and you will obey me.”       My anger boiled as I spat out, “I just wanted to make sure you are not going f**k up my life by one your business deals that go wrong. Make sure your goons know that I will never be contacting you again.” I hung up the phone as tears went down my face. I sat down as there was a knock at my door, “Ms. Kinsley, Your next patient is waiting in room four.” I nodded as I wiped the tears away, “Thank you Helena.” She tilted her head with a sorry look on her face, “It is a good thing that you are going on vacation for two weeks. It looks like you are going to need it.” I snorted, “You have no idea. For five years I have not stopped working so I am not in my father’s shadow anymore.”       She smiled as I got up from the chair and walked out the office, “Helena, thank you for all that you do for me.” She smiled with her bright white teeth showing. Her brown eyes looked up into my eyes, “Anything for you dear. Just remember, your father can’t control you. You control you.” I nodded my head as she wiped the tears from my face with her fingers, “Show him who is the boss of your life and how all that he did to you only made you stronger.”       I straightened up as I smiled at her, “You are right, Room four?” She smirked, “Oh yeah room four.” I raised my eyebrow at her as she walked away. I quickly read the chart of the Pitbull named Basket. I chuckled at the name, ‘I am going to prepare myself for a basket case dog. That is the only way he got a basket for a name.’ I opened the door as a tall, tan, and muscular man stood in front of me pulling on the leash as the dog tried to make a jump for me.       “I am going to guess Basket?” I said as the man nodded at me. I placed my hand above the dog nose as he sat down, “What is going on with Basket?” The man watched me as I lowered myself down to the dog’s level, “Well, He is over do for his check up and I wanted to make sure that he got one. I heard that you are one of the best vets around.” I smirked up at him then looked down at the chart, “Well, Mr. Finn, Let’s see what's going on.”       After about twenty minutes I was done with the examination, “He looks healthy. I do recommend getting him fixed.” Mr. Finn looked at me and shook his head, “Take away his manhood.” I shook my head as I gave him a packet of information about getting pets fixed, “Read these then you understand why I am recommending it.” He took the packets as Basket was pulling him towards the door, “Thanks Doc.”       I opened the door, “I will be on vacation for a couple weeks but if you need anything for Basket, the staff is here to help.” He looked back at me as he grinned at me, “Oh, a couple weeks?” I nodded, “It is only for two weeks.” He sighed, “I don’t know. He only seems to trust you.” I sighed, “Don’t tell anyone.” I gave him my card with my personal number on it, “But I will not be far, I am just checking into the local hotel. Just to get away from my life. So, if it is an emergency then call this number. But only-” He held up his hand then took the card, “I get it. Don’t worry only for emergencies.”       I walked back with the dog that I rented from a man. When I returned his dog and gave him the money; he asked, “So, my boy is healthy?” I smiled at him, “He is, but you should get him fixed,'' the doc said.”” He laughed, “I will keep that in mind. I hope I was able to help.” I smirked at him, “Oh you did in more ways than one.” I got into my car thinking to myself, ‘This is perfect. No one will know she is missing for two weeks.' I made a couple phone calls to set up everything and the safe house that I was going to take her to.       Well, my house is where she will be going. No one knows where it is except for my crew and Timothy. So, she will be safe there until Timothy finds out the actual end game for her. He is just like me and thinks like I do. There is no reason to give a psycho what they want if the other person is innocent in all this whether their families are or not. When we all know she is safe then we will be able to make a plan to get her out of this mess.       She left her office just after five in the evening and drove back to her apartment. As I sat in the car, I decided to do my little own research on the firecracker myself. I found that she graduated with high honors in vet tech. She was bright. Very bright for her age. Not only did she double up her classes but she aced every single one of them so she could graduate early. Which got me to think about digging into her father, too. Why was she pushing him away?       I stopped my search when I came across some hospital documents about the abuse was done to her. She had a broken arm, leg, bruises all over her body. I looked at the police reports and children services. Both of the f**k heads said there was no supporting evidence. How the f**k is that possible, I am looking at the evidence that she was abuse very early on.       I looked up at her bedroom window as I could see her shadow off the curtain. She lifted her shirt over her head as her long hair guided back to her back. Her figure was perfect. I felt myself getting hard. No, I can’t think of her like that right now. Maybe once I grab her up then maybe, but I still have to be careful. I don’t fully know if she has completely cut her father out of her life or not. He finds out that I have been following her even if she is his or not, he will have me killed.       I tried to look into her sister’s life, and she had the perfect life compared to Ariel’s. Makes me wonder if he did know that his wife was pregnant with another man’s baby and he just took care of her after her mother’s death just in spite of the lovers. I laid my head back in my seat as I noticed her light had turned off for the night. “Good night, Kitten.”
