Chapter 8 The afternoon was an embarrassment. The Docile Satellites played half their hearts to a room of constantly shifting tastes, its audience coming and going with the uneven tides of activity. No one in the band understood the occasion, and Eleanor had no luck tracking down a reason for the presence of so many legislators. Several state governors were there (Kentucky, Michigan) and there was even a rumor of a cabinet member circulating in the aft atrium. When the Satellites appeared, they were quickly disposed of in one of the larger meeting rooms. The auditorium was large, about half the size of a school gymnasium with double doors on either end.
