I can feel the clock as it nears towards my deadline. Almost five years ago my father had me sign a contract. This contract gave me legal ownership over all his assets on the condition that I fulfill certain tasks within a time limit. Relentlessly I worked to complete all but one. Finding a wife within five years time. I have utill 8 pm tonight to find a women to marry me or I lose everything. As I sit in my misery my sister Natale crashes in giggling like a mad woman.
" you will not believe what has happened." she gasps out.
" omg. What happened?" I fake amusement.
" you remember Astera's little sister Anna, that we used to pick on. well she got dumped on her wedding day. And get this he left her for her own sister Abella. Can you believe that?"
This news sparked an idea.
" All I can say is I'm glad I don't have sisters." nat said.
I abruptly stood and left knowing this was my best option.
My people got sent in all directions to find Anna. After an hour and a half I got word that she was outside the courthouse. The sky screamed that a storm was coming. When I arrived at the courthouse my eyes quickly found her sitting on the steps staring at the papers on her lap. I walked over to her and as I stood over her all thoughts left my brain. Her eyes met mine and I could she her pain. Finally I gathered all my courage and asked her the most important question in my life.
"Anna will you marry me?"
Pain flashed across her face but was replaced with anger. She rolled her eyes and stood then she scofed and started to walk away.
I grabbed her arm.
"Anna."
she turned and glared into my eyes.
" I don't need this right now."
"At least hear me out."
"fine " she sighed.
We went across the street to a small Cafe. A waiter quickly sat us at a small table in the corner and took our order. I got a coffe and Anna got a small iced tea with lemon.
"I have a little less then four hours to get married or I lose everything I have worked for."
" And what does that have to do with me." Anna said with an eye roll.
" My sister told me about your situation."
" course she did." she said once again with an eye roll. At this rate she was going to roll her eyes right out of her head.
" we can help each other out. If we get married I appease my father and you get revenge."
"What makes you think I want revenge?"
I forgot she wasn't the type for revenge.
How could two people hurt a person they where supposed to love unconditionally. Anna was sweat, amazing and caring.
" well?" she said
Frantically I was shuffling possibilities when our drinks were served. she smiled and thanked the waitress. My father would love if I brought her home.
"what do you want?what ever it is I can make it happen. " I stated
Anna thought for a moment. After what felt like hours but was less then a minute she responded.
"how long would we be married? What would the conditions be?"
She was considering it. I was making progress.
Her eyes her golden brown eyes looked at me waiting for a response. They were intoxicating and pulled my focus.
" We would be need to be married for six years. Are lives publicly would be as one and privately separate. I would need you to appear at certain events but other then that you could live your life as you wish."
" ..." she silently stared at me.
" There would be a prenuptial agreement. Financially I will support you. we would not be allowed to see other people publicly and you would take my name."
"I want a house. my own house. Which I will pick out. I don't want to see your sister more then needed. I don't want to see my family more then necessary. And finally I want a fell safe." she said with precision.
"What kind of fell safe?"
"I don't want to be hurt by you again."
(flashback)
High school was a complicated time. I was learning how to run my family's business while playing sports, keeping straight A's and falling in love. From the first time I saw her I was intrigued.
Anna was average height with long blonde hair and features gifted from aphodite herself. She was on the girls soccer team with my sister and they hated each other for reasons I still don't know. Anna was beyond smart to she would have been the top of our class if she didn't argue with everyone. once she lead a strike on the dress code policy. When I had to pull her off Natalie after there first fight out high school fates where sealed. From then on we were enemies. When we passed in the halls I would make a joke about her hair or push her books out of her hands. The teasing went on like that for a little while until she crossed a line. junior year she painted the word s**t on Natalie's locker or at least I thought it was her because she was the only one who didn't get along with Natalie. I laid off her for a bit and then got my friend neal to ask her out. they went out t like twice before the incident. Just before winter formal Ginny Adam's held a huge party inviting every one from school. Neal brought Anna the plan was for him to break up with her and then we would "carrie" her. But they arrived late so we threw the paint on her and took pictures to post around school. For months we raged on her about that night. Towards the end of sinor year I found out some girl confused the lockers and accidentally painted on Natalie's. I felt terrible and tried apologizing but Anna wouldn't hear it and her friends wouldn't let me near her.
For the rest of senior year I watched Anna from afar. I watched her debate team, her soccer matches, and even choir concerts. Natalie apologized when she started hanging around Anna's sister's Astera and Abella. But they weren't friends which sucked for me.
After high school I didn't see Anna that much. Astera and Natalie become best friends so I still heard abot Anna's life.
"I can agree to your terms."
" As can I."
She pulled out her paper from earlier and slid it over to me. It was a half filled out marriage license. Her side was filled out. I quickly filled out my half and signed it then slide it back over to her. she signed it; we paid and walked back over to the court house. The clerk verified it gave us are copy, the receipt, Anna's passport and her new ID.
Just like that we were married.
