Kelsey's face lit up with triumphant satisfaction. She had always known that Xavier would ultimately choose her in the end.
Her victory lasted barely three seconds before his phone buzzed sharply in his pocket.
One glance at the screen, and his entire expression turned stormy and dark.
"Kelsey, go ahead without me for a while," he said abruptly. "Something urgent came up. I will catch up with you later."
Her stomach dropped straight to the floor. 'That something could only mean Nina was involved again somehow.'
A voice screamed inside her mind, demanding that she stop him right now.
She grabbed his arm desperately, her fingers digging into his sleeve. "You promised me, Xavier. You promised today was just for us."
His mind was reeling from Keith's text message flashing on his screen.
