Her breath caught at the coldness of the water, and she started gasping for air. The river tossed and turned her as she swiftly was taken downstream. She forced herself to the surface gasping for air before the current pulled her under again. A rock nailed her in the back and her body hit hard against it before the current once gain gripped her and dragged her away. Niki felt the bottom of the river with her hand. With force, she pushed herself up towards the surface, gasping. Her body became numb as the river swept her away and she could do little to fight it.
