TESSA I hadn’t realized how heavy my limbs felt until I left the room. Maybe it was the relief of seeing Zane awake, or the hours I had spent beside his unconscious body, holding his hand like a lifeline. My chest still ached, but at least he was alive. Awake, smiling, breathing and that was enough to keep me going… for now. I walked down the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator. I needed the exercise, needed to feel something other than the panic that was still buzzing at the back of my head. I kept touching my face without realizing, like I needed to convince myself that I wasn’t dreaming. That this… that it wasn’t just another cruel loop of waking up in a hospital beside a body that was going cold. Stop overthinking things, Zane is alive. I reached the floor below and paused.
