The meeting

650 Words
‎ ‎I only wanted a minute alone. ‎Just one breath of air away from the music, the fake smiles, and the pressure of pretending I was excited to marry a man a barely knew. So I slipped out into the garden, hiding behind a stone pillar. I needed some air because pretending was definitely something I wasn't goo6d at but ‎I should’ve stayed inside. ‎I could hear voices from two different people one shaky, one cold. ‎Renan. ‎And… someone else. ‎I peek around the pillar. ‎Ad I stood there rooted to the ground unable to move ‎A tall figure stands with Renan, the moon catching on his black hair and sharp jaw with his black suit neatly hugging his body. Even from the side, I recognized him instantly. ‎Prince Lucian Varyn. ‎The one everyone fears. ‎He is the last of his kind and this was no secret. ‎What is he doing with my fiancé? ‎Renan tries to step back, voice cracking. “Lucian, wait” ‎Lucian doesn’t wait. ‎He moves faster than lightening no roar, no shift, no warning. ‎His hand snaps up and grips Renan’s neck. ‎A single twist. ‎Crack. ‎Renan drops instantly. Lifeless. ‎Just like that. ‎My gasp escapes before I can stop it. ‎Lucian goes still. ‎Then he turns his head slightly and his golden eyes was clear under the moonlight. ‎He heard me. ‎He smelled me. ‎I stumble back but he’s already walking toward the pillar, unhurried, terrifyingly calm. ‎I press myself against the stone, praying to melt into it. ‎“Come out,” he says, voice low and cold. ‎My whole body trembles. ‎He doesn’t wait. ‎A strong hand reaches into my hiding spot and drags me out like I’m nothing. I crash against his chest, breath stolen. ‎His grip tightens on my wrist. ‎Golden eyes lock onto mine. ‎“You saw,” he says softly. ‎I shake my head, instantly panicked. “I—I didn’t—I swear, I didn’t mean” ‎He cuts me off with a slow tilt of his head, staring like he’s reading my heartbeat. ‎“Don’t lie to a lycan.” ‎A shudder rolls through me. ‎“Why… why did you kill him?” I whisper. ‎Lucian steps closer, invading every inch of space around me. ‎“Because he needed to die,” he says simply. ‎I can’t breathe. ‎“I won’t tell anyone,” I promise quickly. “I’ll forget it. I’ll” ‎He lifts my chin with two fingers, forcing my gaze up. ‎“No,” he murmurs. “You won’t forget. And I can’t let you go.” ‎My pulse jumps. He hears it. His eyes flicker darker. ‎“Please…” I whisper. ‎He leans in, his breath brushing my cheek, his voice a quiet threat. ‎“A human who witnesses a lycan kill must die.” ‎My knees weaken. ‎“But.” ‎His thumb brushes my lip, slow… claiming. ‎“There is one exception.” ‎I swallow hard. “W–What exception?” ‎His eyes drag over my face, hungry and cold at the same time. ‎“Become mine,” he says. “My mate. My bride.” ‎I flinch. “No—no, I would never" ‎“You will,” he says, voice low and absolute. “Because i wasn't asking but rather telling you.” ‎Tears burn my eyes. His grip softens not kindly, but possessively. ‎“The wedding is tonight,” he murmurs. ‎And then he smiles. ‎Cold. Beautiful. Deadly. ‎Like he already owns me. ‎
