CHAPTER EIGHT- Derick

DERICKS POV

After dropping Heather off we drove to the office in complete silence. I thought about her parents who seemed like normal people to me but that still didn’t guarantee anything.

“Any luck with her parents?” Kamal’s question brought me back to reality

“Nah they look normal to me but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop digging, I’m still waiting on my father to get back to me”

“Or you could go visit him?”

“I’d rather jump of a building” kamal laughed knowing fully well that me actually going to see my father would never be an option

“I think you guys really need to talk, after the last visit you guys haven’t even spoken”

“When he understands why i would rather be here running my company than be there with him, then we can.” My father has been down my neck about taking over as alpha but I’m just not ready for that, and besides no one is even in the forbidden forest anymore everyone is out here blending in with the humans so what’s the point

“Well I think you should try and make him understand”

“ I did the last time and that’s what got us into this situation so kamal drop it”

“Fine”

I thought back to everything that was said between I and my father when I tried to tell him i wasn’t ready to leave the city

“Kairos my long lost son! What brings you here?”

“Stop acting like i completely abandoned you dad, I’ve just been busy”

“Yes, you’ve been busy running a business with humans. Our ancestors didn’t have contact with humans unless they came into our territory looking to hunt us down, yet here you are hiring humans, feeding them, living with them, even acting exactly like them kairos” oh my God here he goes again

“Dad it’s not as bad as you make it seem, no one even believes we exist anymore we blend in perfectly with them, and I think you need to see the outside world before you conclude on it being bad.”

“Never I don’t need to, and soon once you turn 28 under the full moon you will officially become alpha of our pack and then you will stay here and rule the pack like you were born to do”

“Dad about that..” I took a pause gathering the courage to tell him i didn’t want to be the alpha, well at least not yet.

“I don’t think I’m ready to be the alpha”

I braced my self for what ever he was going to say. He went dead silent, then bursts out laughing like I had told him the joke of the decade

“Why are you laughing? What’s so funny?” Then he went silent again. It was like the calm before the storm and then the storm came.

“IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER OR NOT TO BE ALPHA THEN KAIROS THEN YOU’RE A BIGGER FOOL THAT I THOUGHT” he shouted and it echoed all through out the hall

“I see no reason why I can’t choose when I want to to take over the pack, it’s my life”

“You were born to take over this pack and you were fated to do so on your 28th birthday! And you will do so or else you will be disowned and made and outcast to not only this pack but to all the werewolves” I went silent. Did he really just threaten to disown me and throw me out of the pack? Just because I asked for a little more time!!

I changed into my wolf form and bolted out of there feeling more angry than ever.

That was almost a year ago, I turn 28 in 11 months and I still haven’t spoken to my father.

He would call me every month just to remind me I had to give him a grandchild before he “left the earth” but ever since that day I haven’t heard anything from him.

*PRESENT*

As I was taking care of some documents in my office kamal walked in looking extra pleased with himself

“What is it?”

“Miss Mayers just called and said she’s willing to take the job and I told her she could start next week Monday” she took the offer? Gosh for a second there I thought she was actually going to stay in that company

“Okay that’s good” I said with a half smile

“Don’t act like you’re not happy she’s going to be working here Derick” kamal said with a smirk on his face

“I already told you, my only interest In Heather is the enchanted bracelet on her wrist. Nothing more, now drop it and get out of my office.”

“Okay Okay you don’t need to get so angry” he was about to leave when I remembered I had to ask him something

“Kamal, have you heard anything from my father?” He turned around his expression said it all, Nothing.

“I’m sure he’ll get back to you eventually”

“Well I guess so, but I won’t hold my breath” kamal left and I went back to work thinking about what he said about Heather, did i really want her here just to investigate or because I found her interesting? Either way it’s nothing more than mere curiosity.
