Pack?
They went silent, hoping he would figure it out
You mean a pack of wolves? Snow thought, letting out a chuckle
Her hands trembled at her sides. Running was an option, but her feet were too heavy to move. She had never seen anything like this before. Wolves that weren’t just wolves. Their eyes were too sharp, too knowing.
For a long time, no one said a word. The wind whistled faintly through the branches, carrying the smell of damp earth. Snow swallowed hard, her throat dry, her lips refusing to move.
Finally, Sirnala broke the silence, her voice soft but certain.
“Are you sure we have the right one?”
She whispered, her glowing eyes narrowing as she studied Snow.
The others shifted uneasily. Their paws pressed into the ground, tails flicking slowly.
Saki lowered her head, speaking in a whisper.
“We have to tell her… about him.”
Snow’s breath caught in her chest. Her heart raced faster, beating so loudly she could almost hear it echo inside her head. Her thoughts spun wildly.
About him?
Who?
Who are they talking about?
The question formed in her mind before she could stop it.
Who are you talking about?
The wolves walked towards her, their glowing eyes flickering with surprise. Their ears twitched as they heard her thoughts clearly.
Surya stepped forward, her voice low and firm.
“No. I don’t think she’s ready for it.”
Snow shook her head quickly, tears filling her eyes.
No, no, no,
She thought desperately.
Her hands flew to her head, pressing hard as though she could stop their words from entering her mind.
Her chest heaved. She turned, stumbling back, then ran. Her feet tripped over roots and rocks, but she pushed forward blindly, branches scratching her arms and face.
She just needed to escape.
The forest grew darker around her. Mist curled low on the ground, stretching upward until it wrapped around the trees like smoke. Every shadow seemed alive, reaching out for her.
“You cannot run away from this.”
The voice boomed, deep and unshaken.
Snow froze, her body stiff as ice.
A sudden rush of wind came out of nowhere, sharp and powerful. The air bent, and before her stood Senar.
Snow gasped, stumbling backward.
“[Whoosh].”
The sound echoed through the trees as though the forest itself had breathed.
Snow’s eyes widened.
“Your legs… they… how did you?”
Because Senar was no longer a wolf.
Before her eyes, she had transformed into a woman.
Her long hair glowed white just like snow, flowing down her back like a river of frost.
Her eyes still burned with the same piercing light, but her face was human, sharp, calm, beautiful in a cold way.
She stood tall, her every movement slow and graceful, as though she held the weight of the forest in her steps.
Snow’s mouth parted. Her thoughts stumbled.
You’re… human,
She whispered in her mind, disbelief shaking her.
Senar’s lips curved faintly, but there was no warmth in her expression.
“I can do this,”
She said softly. Her voice was steady, smooth, and filled with quiet power.
She paused, letting the silence stretch, then added
“…and more.”
Snow’s hand shook violently at her side. She stepped back again, but the ground was damp and soft. Her heels sank into the earth, making her feel trapped.
Senar stepped closer. Her glowing eyes never left Snow’s face.
“You were brought here for a reason.”
She said. Her voice was calm but firm
Snow shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks.
I didn’t ask for this, she thought desperately. I don’t even know who I am here. Please… I just want to go back.
But Senar didn’t move, didn’t soften. She looked at Snow with the same steady eyes, as though nothing Snow said could change what was already decided.
Behind her, the other wolves also changed their form, their glowing eyes watching quietly. Their silence pressed down harder than words.
Senar raised her hand slowly, graceful as falling snow. The air around her grew still, as if waiting for her command.
“We will let you go,”
Surya said suddenly, her voice strong but heavy, as though the words cost her.
Snow’s breath hitched. Her heart lifted for a moment.
But Surya’s next words were colder.
“…But remember, we will be back for you.”
Snow’s body froze in place. Her lips parted, but no words came. Fear burned in her chest, hot and sharp.
Then it happened.
Her eyes rolled back, her head tilted upward sharply, and she gasped. Her breath came out in a shudder. Her eyes, once dark, turned white, white as her hair.
Her body stiffened, glowing faintly, her skin shining as though light lived beneath it. The wolves lowered their heads in silence, watching as if they had been expecting this moment.
Snow gasped again, breaking the silence, her face turned upward toward the unseen sky.
And then, like the snap of a flame going out, everything fell into darkness.
Snow collapsed.
