Things went back to how they used to be when we were humans between me and Edward but memories still remained of the time he ignored me. The whole family seemed calmer. My gift had got stronger still, and my eye colours now changed with my emotions all the time, which meant I couldn't go out in public that much, however there was so many colours we had started to categorize which emotion made which colour. We were in New York, Rochester, Dad was at work and Mum and Edward had gone hunting. I had chosen to stay behind, not being thirsty and knowing they would bring blood back for me anyway. They had been doing that a lot since I ran away, I think they were worried I would start screaming again and disappear for another week, which I had no intentions of doing. I was sitting in a tree round the back of the house drawing when I smelt it. Blood, human and fresh. I gagged and held my breath, human blood repulsed me. I jumped down from the tree and walked into the house. As I shut the door I hears a loud scream. I ran toward the sound and found Dad sitting next to a beaten looking girl, she was screaming and I could see bite marks on her wrists and ankles and the edge of one on the neck. “Dad?” “Hello...” His reply was cut short by a scream from the girl between us. “What happened?” I asked him. “I found her in the road on the way home. I couldn't leave her there alone to die, it would have been such a waste.” “I know. Who is she?” “Rosalie Hale.” she started screaming then, begging us to kill her. I took a step back shocked. I know I had scream all sorts of thing while I was changing but watching someone else shout it was different. She turned to look at me and her violet eyes burned into mine. “Please kill me. Please.” she begged. “I cant.” I told her. She closed her eyes and screamed. I went to sit with Dad. He took her hand and apologised every time she screamed. He started to explain what we were and what she was becoming. “She wont believe you Dad. Not until she opens her eyes.” I told him. About a day later, Mum and Edward walked in. “Oh my!” Mum exclaimed “What happened?” Dad went through what happened quickly. “What were you thinking, Carlisle?” Edward said “Rosalie Hale?” he said her name in an irritated voice. “Edward be nice!” I scolded. “I couldn't just let her die,” Dad said quietly “It was too much - too horrible, too much waste.” “I know,” Edward said dismissively. “It was too much waste. I couldn't leave her,” Dad repeated again in a whisper. “Of course you couldn't.” Mum told him. “People die all the time,” Edward reminded Dad in a hard voice “Don't you think she's just a little recognisable, though? The Kings will have to put up a huge search – not that anyone suspects the fiend.” Edward growled the end before walking out. Rosalie didn’t scream all the time, sometimes she listened. At these times Dad would talk to her. On the final day I grabbed a mirror and ran into the room. Dad and Edward were talking. “What are we going to do with her Carlisle,” Edward asked causing dad to sigh. “That's up to her, of course. She may want to go her own way.” dad replied. I stood in the doorway looking in “Hello Elizabeth. Hmm, what did we say yellow eyes were for again?” “Confused, Puzzled, Disbelief or Curiosity.” Edward told him. “Well what one are you Elizabeth?” dad chuckled. “Confused. Why would she want to go her own way?” “She might not like our diet. Or us for that matter.” “She wont leave.” I told him firmly. “Elizabeth she...” “She wont.” I said before walking past and sitting comfortably on a chair with my feet up on another. A few hours later Rosalie's heart stopped. Carlisle explained what she was and I gave her the mirror. She was honestly beautiful. She seemed pleased once she saw her reflection and then came introductions. “I'm Carlisle and this is my wife Esme,” Dad introduced wrapping his arm around mum. “Edward.” my brother stated simply, I looked at him and rolled my eyes. “I'm Elizabeth, Edward's sister.” I smiled a dazzling smile at her. “Why are your eyes blue?” she asked me. “Umm blue...blue... Blue is calm and relaxed.” she looked at me confused “Oh you mean 'why are they a different colour completely' not what 'why they are blue'. Oh I have a gift that allows me to change my features. However its got a bit out of control and now just shows my emotions through my eye colour so I cant go out in public because they constantly change.” She nodded but didn't actually look like she understood anything I said, and turned to Dad. “We should take you hunting. If you want to stay with us?” he asked her. “I don’t want to be alone.” she said firmly. “Whooo I win!” I cheered and everyone turned to me. “Emerald green.” Edward said. “Triumph!” I poked my tongue out at him. “Right. I will take Rosalie hunting.” Dad told us and led Rosalie out of the room. Me, Mum and Edward went to sit in the living room and like a had expected Mum had brought blood home with her. She heated some up and handed it to me. I sat sipping my drink quietly my eyes still emerald green. A few days later we were sitting in the living room and Rosalie was in the spare room. I had been told to stay away from her and give her space, because apparently I can be a 'bit much' sometimes. To which I totally disagree. I decided that Rosalie needed to talk to someone. I got up. “Sit down Elizabeth. Leave Rosalie alone.” Dad said. “She needs to talk to someone Dad,” “If she needs to talk she will dear.” Mum said. “Not if she doesn't know our stories. She was murdered, that's what led to her being here. Well so was I. I know what she's thinking more than any of you and I want to help. I will go away if she tells me to. I promise.” Mum and Dad looked at each other. They could tell I wasn't messing around because my eyes were blue-violet which meant serious. They nodded and I made my way upstairs. I knocked on her door and pushed it open. She was looking out of the window which was open. “I know what your thinking Rosalie,” I stated closing her door. “No you don’t,” she hissed. “I do. I considered it once.” I confided looking down at my hands. She turned to look at me and asked “You did?” “Yes. I could tell you about it if you like?” she nodded and I sat down on the end of her bed and crossed my legs. She sat opposite me leaning against the head board. I listened and heard nothing. Mum, Dad and Edward had left to give us some privacy. Mum and Dad didn't know about this... Edward did because he could read minds, but he kept it a secret for me. Thanks Ed I thought before turning to Rosalie. “When I was human I lived with my Mother, Father and Edward in Chicago. In 1918 the Spanish Influenza struck and my Father died in the first wave. Mother and Edward caught it soon after and Carlisle treated them. I went to the hospital one day and Carlisle told me they had died in the night. I went into shock and I couldn’t move. Carlisle carried me home and placed me on the sofa. I laid there for three days without moving, the family nanny left and I was on my own. On the last day of my life I heard someone breaking in. I got up to investigate and saw two men taking my families belongings. I intervened by telling them that the items weren't theirs and one pulled out a knife and plunged it into my stomach. It wasn’t enough to kill me quickly, I bled out and the men watched until they thought I was dead. Edward found me and took me to Carlisle who bite me right before my heart gave in, they were worried they were to late I was that close to death. When the pain stopped I thought about going after the men who killed me, I didn’t want to kill a person but were they people?, I thought long and hard about it, with the red eyes no one would notice if I 'slipped up'. But I didn’t want their blood in me and I didn’t want to be like them. They are monsters Rosalie and I understand if you want to kill them, I wont see you any differently.” there was silence for a while after my speech. “Do you ever regret not killing them?” Rosalie asked. “I did yes. Everyday I wondered if they had killed another human. Once I had perfected my gift I went back to Chicago behind Mum and Dads backs, I found the guys and 'talked' to them... Well I more like scared the living daylights out of them... I then gave the police a hint of where to find them and what they had done and took off. I know they are in prison now and I can live with that. I still wonder if it would have been better to kill them and I cant tell.” “So you did get revenge?” Rosalie asked. “In the end I guess. I let them suffer I jail knowing they killed me. I scared them so much that night they admitted it to the police outright. I was the only person that they had killed but they were wanted for theft as well so I done someone some good. The one that stabbed me died last year and the other is in Chicago Prison for life. Sometimes I wish I had killed them myself... Prison was too good for them... they sat and watched a 15 year old girl die... but I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had killed them. For you it might be different... they hurt you more than just killing you... you do what you need to do,” I explained. She hesitated for a moment before stating “I want revenge.” “I know.” I nodded. She thought for a while before a cold look came over her face. “I wont drink their blood but they need to feel what I felt.” she told me. “Okay.” Rosalie spent the next 2 days finding each man and deciding what order to kill them in. I sat in her room with her, normally drawing or listening and answering questions. “I will leave Royce for last so he knows you are coming. And I will leave a while in-between so news can get around.” she told me one night. “Okay.” I agreed. Although I didn't like talking about murder... Rosalie needed someone to talk her ideas through with. “Thank you Elizabeth. For understanding.” she sighed when her plans were done. “That's okay Rosalie.” I smiled warmly at her. “Call me Rose its shorter.” she returned my smile. “Call me... umm...” I paused thinking of a nickname. “Lizzy?” she suggested. “No. That's what Edward has always called me.” I blurted out, Rose looked defeated for a minute. “Okay... How about... Ellie?” she spoke up. “Ellie? Yeah that sounds alright.” I left Rose to get on with her revenge after that, drawing. 5 nights later Rose came home again after a night out. I knew by the way she was smiling that she had finished with her revenge. She went to Dad. “I'm ready to move now Carlisle.” ~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~
