It was the big day. Esme's eyes were just gold enough to not cause alarm to the humans, so the wedding was going ahead.
Carlisle had invited people from his work. Esme had invited some people she had got to know recently, there was snow on the ground and we were all ready to go. The cover story was that Esme was mine and Edwards older sister and our parents had died in a tragic accident and we were living with her and her new husband. The wedding was going to be amazing and then Carlisle and Esme were going on a honeymoon together. Carlisle had brought Esme an island, and he was going to take her to it but she didn’t know.
Edward played the piano and Esme walked down the aisle.
The wedding was as amazing, because it was planned by me, and the reception started smoothly. I went to congratulate my parents.
“Congratulations!!” I said as I hugged them.
“The wedding was beautiful," Carlisle told me kissing my forehead "Its going to be hard to top that one next time”
Esme nodding in agreement and I grinned at them.
The reception ended and it was just us left. The day had been the best I had ever had. Now Carlisle and Esme were getting ready for their honeymoon. Esme walked up to me.
“Cant you tell me where he's taking me now?” she moaned like a child.
“Nope that would be breaking our father, daughter trust. And I will not allow that to happen.” I felt Carlisle's hand on my shoulder and I looked up and him grinning.
“Fine” she huffed and I poked my tongue out at her.
“Are you going to be okay here?” Carlisle asked seriously. I smiled at him.
“I will survive, and anyway I have a house to decorate for Christmas. So don’t be late.” I warned them.
“We wouldn’t miss Christmas for the world,” Esme said before kissing my cheek and going to find Edward. I turned to hug Carlisle.
“Now don’t spend all my money.” he joked.
“I wont.” I promised him and he also went to say goodbye to Edward.
I spent the new few days walking around and looking for Christmas decorations. It was going to be my first Christmas in 4 years. Now that we had a family we could celebrate it. I brought a tree and some holly wreaths to decorate the house and then moved on to gifts. I brought a canvas and some paints and painted Carlisle and Esme together at the wedding surrounded by snow and flowers. I then brought Carlisle a book about medicine and Esme a locket that I saw. However I got stuck on what to buy for Edward. In the end I decided to make him a photo album of the best memories from my human and vampire life. I spent the next 5 days painstakingly drawing out my memories with perfect recollection and then painting them to the perfect colouring and shading until they looked real, I realised I didn’t have any vampire memories of me and Edward so I took my mothers photo album out and copied my favourite pictures from inside it. I then bound it with ribbon into a book and I was finished. I smiled at myself and looked at the date on my calendar.
The 24th December. 'Christmas Eve. Carlisle and Esme will be home soon and I haven't hunted' I ran downstairs and out into the woods. I followed my senses and caught a few deer before slowly making my way home. I got to the back door and heard voices inside.
“So was it a good journey?” I heard Edward ask.
“Wonderful although it was a long time to be near humans.” I heard Esme reply.
“Where's Elizabeth now then?” Carlisle asked. I swung the back door open and cried.
“Mum, Dad your home!” I jumped into Carlisle's arms and he swung me around before setting me back on my feet next to Esme.
“In time for Christmas, like we promised.” Esme told me before kissing my cheek.
“Tell me about your honeymoon!” I said pulling Esme towards the couch.
“Well......”
A few hours later when I had finally got most of the information about my parents honeymoon and had given them a chance to unpack, we all sat around the tree. It had turned midnight a little while ago, so now it was officially Christmas.
“I'll go first! Dad this ones for you.” I handed him the present I got him and he smiled before he opened it.
“Thank you darling” he said and kissed my forehead.
“Your welcome,” I smiled back at him “This is for you Mum.” I sat on her lap and handed her the gift. She opened it and gasped.
“Its beautiful. Thank you sweetie” she hugged me from behind and I jumped down and I pulled out the large canvas. “Its for both of you.” I said looking at Mum and Dad. I turned the canvas around and they both gasped.
“Wow I didn’t know you were that good at drawing. It looks like its real.”
“I wanted you to remember that day forever, in all its beauty.”
“Thank you.” Mum got up and put the canvas on top of the fireplace.
I picked up my last gift. I walked over to Edward and held it out he looked over and Mum who looked very strict, it was clear she was talking to him in her head. He nodded and turned back to me. He took the gift and smiled,
“Thank you.” I beamed and him and it seemed just like old times. He opened the present and looked through it. “Its amazing. Thank you.”
I smiled at him and walked back over to my place.
“So who wants to go next?” Dad asked.
“I will.” Edward said. He reached out and picked up some presents before handing them out. I opened mine to find a beautiful, hand crafted box. When I opened it, it played a familiar tune; a tune that Edward used to hum to me to get me to sleep. I could feel my eyes prickling although no tears came. I looked up at Edward.
“Thank you, its lovely.” I closed the lid gently and placed it down in front of me.
“Right its our go now.” Mum declared and handed me and Edward our gifts. I opened mine to see a locket and a ring with the Cullen family crest on. I looked up at Mum and Dad.
“Your a part of the Cullen family now.” Dad said.
“Now and forever.” I reminded him.
The rest of the day was spent cleaning up and hunting. But over the day my mood decreased until later that night, I sat at the bottom of the tree staring into the branches.
“What's wrong Elizabeth?” I heard Dad ask.
“I had a great day but its just different now that I’m a vampire, Christmas doesn’t feel the same any more. There's no waking up early to the smell of turkey cooking or running into Edwards room to wake him up. I love my new life, but I miss my old life as well.” No more words were said we just sat there looking at the tree.
