Encouraged by his wife Marie-Hélène and persuaded by his friend Trevor Bullock, Christopher Yarrow did join the West Riding Constabulary. Initially he was stationed in Sheffield for his basic training, but once he had completed training for CID, he put in a request for a transfer to West Garside, which was granted. He and Marie-Helene then moved out of rented accommodation and bought their house on Carling Green, taking out a mortgage from the West Yorkshire Bank With so many men killed during the war, promotion was rapid and by 1951 he had reached the rank of Detective Inspector at Endeavour House, by which time Trevor Bullock had risen to the rank of Superintendent. Yarrow and Marie-Hélène did not have children, although both eagerly wanted a family, but for whatever reason it did not
