Learning and Trust -CHAPTER 25

333 Words
📄 CHAPTER 25 Weeks passed, and the bond between the five of them grew stronger. They moved through the school and the neighborhood like any group of friends, laughing and talking, but always with a quiet awareness that set them apart. Liana found herself feeling more confident, not just in her ability to sense the Veil, but in her place among them. Yet even as they learned and grew closer, there were moments that reminded them the danger was real. Occasionally, they would feel a sudden coldness in the air, or see shadows twist for just a heartbeat before returning to normal. These small signs were like warnings, reminding them that the thinning of the barrier was continuing, and that they still had much work to do. One evening, as they stood at the gate between their homes, Elias looked toward the darkening sky, his expression thoughtful. “You have learned much in a short time,” he said. “You understand the Veil, you can feel its changes, and you know how to protect yourself from what tries to cross. But there is still more to learn about the history of the barrier, and about what might be causing it to weaken.” He looked at her, his eyes clear and steady. “Tomorrow, we will go to the old archives. There are records there that have been kept for centuries — stories, warnings, and knowledge that was passed down from the Guardians who came before us. Perhaps there, we will find answers to what is happening.” Liana nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and anticipation. “I’ll be ready,” she said. As she went inside and looked out her window at the house next door, she knew that while she had come a long way, their journey was only just beginning. The truth was larger and older than any of them, and the answers they sought might be hidden in secrets that had waited for generations to be found.
