Learning and Trust -CHAPTER 22

273 Words
📄 CHAPTER 22 As the days passed, the others also took turns teaching her what they knew. Jaxson showed her how to read the wind — not just to feel its strength, but to understand what it carried. “The wind holds scents, sounds, and even traces of magic,” he told her. “When the Veil is thin, it may carry a chill that does not belong to the weather, or a silence that feels too heavy.” He demonstrated how to call a small, gentle breeze, making it circle around them without causing harm. “You may not be able to control it as I do,” he said, “but learning to recognize its changes will help you stay safe. When the wind feels sharp or restless, it is often a sign that the barrier nearby is weak.” Serena’s lessons were quieter and more observant. She taught Liana to study shadows, to tell the difference between those cast by light and those that had been touched by something beyond. “Shadows remember,” she said, her voice low. “They hold the shape of what was there, and if something unnatural passes through, they will twist or stretch in ways they should not.” She showed her how to look for the small signs: edges that were too sharp, darkness that did not fade even when light touched it, or the way shadows seemed to move independently of the objects that cast them. “Do not fear them,” Serena advised. “But do not trust them blindly either. They can hide as easily as they can reveal.”
