📄 CHAPTER 11 The next morning, the sun rose bright and clear, chasing away any trace of the mist and shadows from the day before. To anyone passing by, the neighborhood looked perfectly ordinary — quiet streets, blooming flowers, and the soft sounds of daily life. But for Liana, nothing felt quite the same anymore. Every breeze, every shift of light, and every shadow seemed to hold a new kind of meaning. When she arrived at school, she found Elias near the entrance, standing with Jaxson, Serena, and Milo. As she approached, the conversation among them quieted slightly, and all four pairs of eyes turned toward her. There was no hostility in their gazes, only a quiet wariness, as if they were still unsure how much she truly understood. Milo was the first to break the silence, offering his usual easy grin. “Heard you had an interesting walk home yesterday,” he said, his tone light but observant. “Elias came back looking like he’d been checking the edges of the Veil again.” Liana glanced at Elias, who gave a small, confirming nod. “I saw things I didn’t think were possible,” she said honestly. “And I want to know what they mean. I don’t want to go on feeling like I’m missing half the world around me.” Serena crossed her arms, her expression sharp and skeptical. “Knowing isn’t always better,” she said coolly. “Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. It changes how you look at everything — and not always for the better.” “I’d rather know the truth than live in fear of what I don’t understand,” Liana replied steadily. Jaxson let out a short breath, leaning against the wall with a slight smirk. “She’s got a point there,” he said, looking at Elias. “You can’t keep hiding it forever, especially if she can already feel the Veil thinning.” Elias looked between them, then back at Liana. After a moment of silence, he gave a slow, thoughtful nod. “Very well. If you truly wish to understand, we will show you. But you must promise to keep what you learn between us. This secret is not ours alone — it protects more than just ourselves.” “I promise,” Liana said firmly.
