Truth Unveiled -CHAPTER 12

📄 CHAPTER 12 After classes ended that afternoon, the group did not take the usual road home. Instead, they led Liana along a narrower, tree-lined path that wound its way toward the edge of the forest bordering the town. As they walked, the noise of the city slowly faded, replaced by the rustle of leaves and the soft song of birds. “This path has been here for as long as anyone can remember,” Elias explained as they walked. “It runs along one of the oldest lines of the Veil. The barrier is thinner here than anywhere else nearby, which makes it easier to explain what we are.” They stopped in a small clearing surrounded by tall, ancient trees. Sunlight filtered through the branches, dappling the ground in gold and green. At first glance, it looked like any other peaceful spot in the woods — but as Liana looked closer, she noticed the air seemed to shimmer faintly, like heat rising from pavement, and the leaves held a subtle glow that was not quite natural. “Magic is not something that belongs only in stories,” Elias began, his voice calm and clear. “It is a natural force, like wind or water — invisible most of the time, but always present. Long ago, it flowed freely through the world, but when it was used to cause destruction and pain, the first Guardians created the Veil. It separates the human world from the realm where magic is strong and wild.” He gestured to the shimmering air around them. “We are descended from those first Guardians. Our families have carried the gift of sensing and controlling magic for generations. It is our duty to maintain the Veil, keep it strong, and make sure that what lies beyond does not cross over and cause harm.”
