SHADOWS IN THE Dark -CHAPTER 8

311 Words
📄 CHAPTER 8 Just as the feeling of cold and fear became almost too heavy to bear, something changed. A faint, warm light began to glow in the distance, cutting through the gray mist like a candle in the dark. It was soft, silver-white, and it seemed to push back the cold wherever it touched. The twisted shadows flinched away from it, shrinking back into their usual shapes, and the whispering voices faded until they were nothing more than a memory. Liana stared in amazement as the light grew brighter and clearer, moving steadily toward her. Soon, she could make out a figure walking through the mist, the soft glow seeming to surround him like a gentle shield. It was Elias. He moved with calm certainty, his eyes fixed on her as he drew closer. The strange darkness and mist seemed to part naturally around him, as if they dared not come too near. When he finally stopped a few steps away, the air around her felt warmer and lighter again, and the heavy feeling in her chest began to lift. “Are you all right?” he asked, his voice steady and clear, cutting through the last of the silence. His expression was serious, but there was genuine concern in his eyes as he looked her over. Liana let out a breath she felt she had been holding for a long time. “I… I think so,” she said, her voice still a little shaky. “What was that? The mist, and the shadows… they didn’t look right. It felt like something was there.” Elias glanced around at the now-ordinary path, his gaze sharp and aware, before turning back to her. “That is exactly why I told you to be careful,” he said gently. “This place is not always as simple as it seems.”
