alph Bartlett kept the Junebug motoring westerly once they left Key West’s southeast channel to take advantage of slack water until he was about 20 miles west of Sand Key. Now he was ready for a sweeping U-turn to port that would put them in position to pick up the Gulf Stream thus saving fuel and adding a few knots to their speed. He spun the wheel, immediately feeling the push from the current, and plugged a waypoint into the GPS. Their course was set for Cuban waters, and the next stop would be a few nautical miles from Hemingway Marina where they could clear immigrations and customs to obtain their cruising permit.
