I Corps—Summer 68R ent-a-Battalion was milling around, stretched out in a defensive line along the southern banks of the Cua Viet River. In a shabby GP tent near the center of that line, the commander of 2nd Battalion, Third Marines was trying to determine who his outfit belonged to this week. If it was their parent 3rd Marine Division, they’d probably be moving west toward the Rockpile where there were reports of an NVA build-up south of the DMZ. If it was Task Force X-Ray of the 1st Marine Division, to which they’d been on loan for the past month, they’d likely be moving south toward Quang Tri where there were similar reports.
