“IS ALEX GOING TO COME visit set again?” Darcy asks from her perch on top of the low bookshelf that runs the length of the wall in Paul’s office. Paul has no idea why, but she’s claimed it as her spot whenever she’s in here for a meeting. Or to pester him. “I don’t know. Why?” Paul sighs. Alex has been disruptive enough to his work at home. He can’t imagine it would be good to have him at the office as well. Darcy shrugs. “I like him. He’s fun to have around.” Paul frowns. “What has he been telling you?” Darcy swings her foot gently against the shelf. “Nothing.” Paul suspects that’s a flat-out lie — the rest of their friends’ loyalties he can predict, but Darcy tries to play all sides.
