PAUL ISN’T THE TALENT or even a well-known brand and personality the way Victor is. Unfortunately and unpleasantly for him, he still has to be at upfronts to convince people that he can be — and convince them to spend money with Winsome. Initial ad buys, as much as whatever the early viewing figures prove to be, are essential to a full season and the show’s survival. Paul’s not convinced he’s charismatic enough for the job. Thankfully he has Darcy and enough enthusiasm from the network that she’s doing some of the stage show hosting; her theater career means there’s no question she can handle the live audience. It’s all bullshit, even if he’s a little jealous of the actors and their crisp, preternatural ability to turn joyfully toward any camera. It’ll be nice to commiserate with Alex lat
