“Simon Reid is gone?” Kira echoed, trying to make sense of the words.
“We don’t know whether he slipped away during the confusion, or was taken.” Nick rubbed at the back of his closely-cropped dark hair with one hand. “It happened shortly after we visited Ginette. Martinez and his partner made a thorough search of the area before calling me while you were passed out.”
“So I was right.” Kira spoke the words in a numb voice, with no sense of satisfaction. “Kori’s abduction was only a distraction.”
