44 Hector Martinez was happy to finally have some kind of solid lead to work with. His entire day since the ‘car fire’ incident had been a wild goose chase, filled with countless interviews with Reid’s neighbors that had led nowhere. That was why he found himself standing in Reid’s basement, even though his shift had ended a few hours ago. He needed to make things up to Nick—and to himself. How could he and Gibbs have let themselves be drawn away from their target? Now Gibbs was off running some sort of secret errand for Nick, while Hector oversaw the CSU team.
