Walter Waters stepped forward to stand beside Kira, holding Ginette’s gaze. “What are you doing here?” Ginette demanded, her dark eyes flashing from her adopted father to Kira with an air of betrayal. Kira forced herself to meet her eyes. “He knows.” Ginette advanced a half-step toward Kira before remembering her own men were in the way. “Leave us,” she said to them with a wave. “But—” the larger one protested. “There is no danger here,” Ginette snapped. “Wait for me in the van.” She stood stock still, glaring at Kira and Walter as her men retreated up the stairs.
