Chapter 9

3880 Words
Hot, it’s way too hot. I feel like a hot burrito being stuck in all these blankets. As I try to push off the blankets, I realise it’s not the blankets making me hot. I look down and see a very muscular arm draped around me, reminding me I didn’t sleep alone. How did this even happen? Last time I remember, there was at least 3 feet between us. Calmly, I try to lift his arm and wiggle away but to no avail. His arm won’t budge but I’m not a quitter, so I keep trying. After more pointless attempts I feel him move and pull me closer to his front, making me freeze. I just stay still, hoping he didn’t wake up. A few more minutes pass and he didn’t move again so I start pulling his arm again.   “Just stay a little longer”, he whispers and I feel him snuggle his face in the crook of my neck. So he was awake, great… I turn around and am met with his divine green eyes. I immediately feel my cheeks heat up, nervous by how close he was. “Good morning”, he smiles at me, looking deeply in my eyes. His morning voice sounds incredibly hot though... “You promised no funny business”, I say, pointing between us. I tried to sound angry but was hopelessly failing at it. “I know but when you started inching closer, I just couldn’t resist”, he answers me slyly, resting his hand on my cheek. He’s lying. I wouldn’t give in that easily, not even in my sleep. Who am I kidding, I probably would. “I didn’t do that”, I say, trying to sound convincing. “You did”, he pushes back, the amusement clear in his voice. “Did not” “Deny it all you want sweetheart, your body betrays you anyway”, his smirk turns wider and he looks down so I follow his eyes. He had lifted my leg, resting it around his side and his hand softly resting on my ass. How was this bastard able to do that without me noticing? “Because you want me just as much as I want you”, he says and that’s when I notice I said that last part out loud. “Sure I do”, I say and push him away. He just laughs at me and slowly gets up. “How much I’d like to stay, I’m going to shower so we can go for breakfast. I have a lot to do today”, he says and sits on the edge of the bed to stretch, leaving me with the beautiful sight of his muscular back. “Unless you want to join me”, he adds seductively, turning is head to me. “You wish” I quickly throw a pillow his way but he catches it easy, laughing at my silly attempt. “That I do, sweetheart” he winks and makes his way to the bathroom, closing the door after him.   After his shower, he told me to get ready and meet him downstairs for breakfast. It was still early but making my way downstairs I saw the pack already bright and busy. Entering the dining hall, I spot Alexander and make my way over. The past few weeks, I always woke up quite late but since it’s early there are a lot of people having breakfast with us. I sit down next to Alexander, who gives me a smile before returning to his conversation with Chris and Logan. Amélie nudges me and I see her and Veronica smiling creepily at me. Before I ask them what’s up, I notice two empty chairs where normally Ashton and Jill sit, but I’m pretty sure those two are just making out somewhere.   “Sorry, what?” I ask as I felt Amélie nudge me again, harder this time I may add. “I asked how your date went”, she asks louder, making the whole table take interest in our conversation. I turn to Alexander but he just leans his arms on the table and smirks at me, waiting for my response as well. “It went okay”, I quickly throw out, not liking all the attention for this particular subject. “Okay?” Alexander half yells, not happy about my answer. I immediately feel bad for saying okay, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. “I-, uhm…”, I try to say something but nothing. I turn to Amélie but she, just like the rest of the table, are pretty much laughing their asses off. Great friends, just great. “Can you all stop, it’s not funny”, Alexander tells them, angrily glaring at them. “I didn’t mean it like that”, I say and I see his glare turn softer. “Anyway, I need to be somewhere out of the pack for today so I want you to stay with Logan for a few hours”, Alexander says and I still see some frustration from what I said earlier. “So we’re back to the bodyguards?” I sigh and look at him, hoping he’d change his mind. I mean I like to hang out with Logan but it’s something else if he’s literally following me everywhere. “We have school so it’s better anyway, girly. Speaking of school, we have to leave”, Veronica chirps in and shortly after, her and Amélie make their way out of the dining room. “Yeah, we’ll wait for you two in the hall”, Chris adds and him and Logan go out as well, leaving me alone with Alexander.   I turn to Alexander to see him already looking at me with a sad expression. “I know the date didn’t quite ended up where I intended but I-“, he starts explaining but I stop him. “I liked the date, it’s just that not everybody needs to know everything about it”, I tell him, nervously looking down. “Hey, look at me”, he says and places his fingers under my chin, making me look at him. “I’m sorry I snapped at you”, he whispers and in one swift motion he pulls me on his lap. “Alexander, there are other people here”, I try to reason but he just smiles like a little kid and pulls me closer. After a little I feel him pull back and look at me. “Stay close to Logan for today”, he says sternly but in his eyes I just see concern. “I will” “But not too close”, he mutters and I shake my head at him as we stand up to go to the hall. Chris and Logan both turn to us as they see us approach. “Take care of her, Logan”, Alexander commands as we step up to the two guys and Logan immediately nods. “Be careful, love”, he kisses my forehead and pulls back a little to look at me. Like this, we’re really gonna be standing here till tomorrow… “I’ll be fine”, I reassure him and he finally let’s me go, leaving with Chris to wherever.   Next time I have to make sure to ask him what things he’s been doing all the time. Amélie told me that as ‘luna’, aka the mate of the alpha, you have to take care of the pack but up until now, I have been doing nothing. It makes me feel bad, like I’m not really the right person for this. I want to be but Alexander excludes me from everything big that goes on, saying and I quote ‘you don’t have to worry your pretty little head about it, I’ll fix everything’. I know he means well but it makes me feel absolutely useless. I’m not allowed to help with my family situation so the least I can do is be luna of this pack, whatever that means.   “So, what are we doing?”, Logan asks. “I don’t really know, surprise me”, I tilt my head back and close my eyes. This is a beautiful house and all but it’s getting really boring after all this time. “Well, why don’t I take you to one of my favorite places?”, he says after thinking for a bit and I open one eye, looking at him. “What favorite place?” I ask curiously. I thought I’d seen most of the fun spaces in the house. “You’ll see. Common, shorty”, he jokes and starts walking, knowing damn well I hate that nickname. I quickly catch up and after a minute I realise we’re walking to the front door. “Are we allowed to leave?”, I ask, slowing down a little. I mean I’d love to leave but I don’t really want to deal with an angry Alexander after. Logan turns to me and smiles brightly at me. “Don’t worry, I just asked him”, he explains and I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. He points to his head and then it clicks, he mindlinked him. Amélie gave me a sum up of all the werewolf perks a while ago but sometimes I just seem to forget that they’re even any different from me. We walk for a few minutes down the long gravel road and turn into one of the streets. Logan leads me up to a beautiful older building. It had stairs leading up to the door and two large window going up to the second floor of the building. After walking up the stairs, he opens the tall doors for me and I step in.   “A library?” I ask, my eyes wide with the sight in front of me. This place was huge with just rows and rows of bookcases going all the way to the ceiling. “You like books?” he asks, a smile on his face as well. “I love reading” I’m definitely gonna come here again… “Let me take you to my favorite part of this place”, he says and I follow him until we stop at a spiral staircase in a pretty hidden corner of the library. We go up and enter a much older part of the library. “These are mostly about history, some of the town even”, Logan starts as he leads my further in the room. "But these are my favorites”, he says as we arrive at a cosy area with some tables and two couches surrounded by more bookcases. I looked further and understood why this was his favorite spot. It had a beautiful chandelier hanging in the middle and a big round window lighting up the room. I took one of the books that was lying in the middle of a table and sat down on the table. “These are about the supernatural”, he tells me and my eyes immediately light up. “I thought you might like to know some more about it”, he says and sits down on one of the couches, taking out his phone. “Ask me anything because these are pretty old and outdated”, he adds and I nod, excitingly opening the first chapter, werewolves.   Werewolves, also known as children of the moon, are shapeshifters with the ability to change into wolves.   I read the first sentence and look up at Logan, who’s still on his phone. “Any more interesting facts about werewolves?” I ask him. “I’m pretty sure you got all the basics from Amélie”, he smiles fondly and goes back to his phone. I go further and look at the next chapter. Vampires.   Vampires are reanimated bodies of the dead that survive on the blood of the living.   “What about vampires?”, I ask since my twilight knowledge probably wont help me much. “It was a curse created by witches to scare away the humans from their lands. There was a time were supernatural were killed if discovered so the witches cursed the humans to kill their own. The basics; They’re pretty much dead, they burn in the sun and survive on blood. They’re pretty strong though and very hard to kill, I might add so if you see a pale motherfucker with red eyes, you run”, he tells me. Clearly not a fan of vampires I see. “But are they all bad?”, I ask. If they’re like werewolves I can’t imagine there all bad people. I truly believe that choices make a person, not their species or whatever. “I guess not but there’s just always been a certain hostility between wolves and vampires. Plus, did I say they survive on blood?” I shake my head and turn back to the next chapter, which are the witches.   A witch is an individual that is born or blessed with the ability to do magic.   “What about witches?” “They’re annoying, that’s what they are”, he starts. “They can be pretty helpful sometimes. There are different types of witches, good and bad. It just depends on the powers the witch possesses and her own will. But to put it short, there just people who can do magic” I nod and look down at one of the pages. Elemental witches, necromancy witches, demonology witches, green witches,… This is all just unbelievable. They are all living amongst us humans and we don’t even have a clue. I turn to the next chapter and almost laugh with the title.   “Mermaids? They really exist?” I ask baffled. “Yeah, but there isn’t much known about them. They keep pretty much to their selves” Well there goes my dream to meet a mermaid. I turn to the last page with a drawing and I quickly regret even dreaming about them. They don’t look even close to what I thought. They have spikes on their tail and elbows and raiser sharp teeth. I much prefer the other version…   I swiftly go through the next few chapter. They’re mostly creatures that I’ve heard of in fairy tails or stories. Fairies, demons, angels, goblins, even damn unicorns… I turn to the last chapter and look at the title.   “Hunters?”, I say confused as I look up at Logan. “Let’s just say that they’re not really nice people, definitely not against other species”, he tells me not looking up from his phone but I can clearly see that there’s more to it than just that so I start reading the first page out loud.   Hunters are the protectors in the world of the supernatural. They hunt those with ill will and protect the ones who cannot protect their selves.   “Protecting my ass”, Logan mutters softly but there was clearly hatred there. I turn a few pages and start reading again.   The hunter gene isn’t necessarily passed down by family, being a hunter is about what goes on in the mind. It’s passed down to those with a strong spirit to fight all the evil in the world and to those who can take the responsibility to ensure the peace between the humans and the supernatural.   “But the gene mostly stays within the same families. It’s because of their training and upbringing, they’re basically raised to fit into the hunter character”, Logan adds again. He seems quite familiar with this subjects… I turn the page around and see some text, followed by all sorts of symbols.   Hunters are born human so to able to protect others, the angels gifted the hunters their marks. Marks can possess all sorts of purposes; they give them the abilities to fight and protect others and themselves. Therefor they’re not just human anymore, but partly supernatural as well.   “Do you know how they get the marks? Are they born with it or are they drawn?” I ask Logan as I look up from the book. “I don’t think anyone knows that, except for the hunters then of course”, he answers and I nod, going over all the different symbols. Speed, invisibility, healing, stamina,... I could never remember all of these. I turn to the last page of the chapter and start reading again.   All hunters answer to the angels, apart from the descendant. They only answer to themselves as their heart and mind are seen as the purest of all the supernatural but they have a strong fire within to fight for whoever is under their protection.   “You know more about a descendant?”, I ask Logan again since I didn’t see anymore information in the book. “There isn’t much known about them, it’s said they’re just a legend”, he tells me. “So what is known about them?” “All that is known is that they are supposed to be like the most powerful of all hunters. They could basically kick all of the supernatural on their asses” “This is all so unbelievable”, I state, to no one in particular. Knowing about the supernatural makes me feels a lot better, it makes me feel a lot less clueless. “I know, right. I could read here for hours, this is like my personal safe space”, he tells me, a smile clear on his face. “Thank you”, I say and push myself of the table to give him a hug. “You’re very welcome”, he says before slightly pushing me away. “We don’t want the alpha to get jealous now, do we? “That’s a no”, I nervously laugh and place the book back.   After talking a bit more in the library we decided to go back to the house since the reading got us hungry. As we walk up to the house, I look at the forest beside me and just in time I see some of the pack members turn in their wolves and sprint of. Honestly how did I not notice this before. It just continues to amaze me. “Allright, what has gotten you so worked up?” I finally ask Logan seeing his face, clearly frustrated, still on that damn phone. “You caught on to that?”, he answers as we enter the kitchen and I take an apple from the fruit bowl. “It was hard not to”, I reply and shake my head at him, biting the apple. “It’s Ashton, he’s not answering his damn phone since yesterday. I know he loves to spend time with my sister and all but the bastard could look at his phone every once in a while”, he vents out and leans his head in his hands. “He’s probably just fine. You know how they are”, I answer him as I’ve seen them together, pressed against a wall more times than I’d like. “It’s just annoying, my best friend ignoring me for my little sister” he sighs. “Hey, I thought I was your best friend”, I pout trying to cheer him up. “You know what, sure. Screw him. You’re my new bestie”, he jokes and smiles again. It’s crazy but he really feels like my best friend at the moment. He knows the most about me and we’ve spend a lot of time together, it’s hard not to get close then. I turn back at Logan and see him just starring ahead before he looks at me. “They’re back. Alexander asked you to go to his office”, he informs me. “Okay, I guess I’ll see you later”, I smile at him and turn to leave the kitchen. “Later, shorty”, I hear him but I just keep walking and hold up the middle finger.   I make my way up the stairs and feel myself growing nervous again. So that’s how it’s gonna be from now I guess… I just wish I wasn’t such a chicken with him. I used to be pretty confident when it came to guys but this werewolf is really f*****g with my head, to much too my liking.   The door of his office is open so I step in seeing him leaning against his desk as if waiting for me. “There you are”, he said and pushed himself of the desk. A happy expression came to his face as he stepped towards me. “I missed you”, he said and took me in his arms. “It hasn’t even been five hours”, I answer and hesitantly put my arms around his neck. He doesn’t respond and snuggles his face in my neck. I close my eyes enjoying this but they quickly snap open as I hear a loud growl from him. “Why do I smell him on you” I pull back and meet his angry gaze. “What?”, I say confused. “LOGAN, WHY DO I SMELL LOGAN ON YOU”, he yells angrily and I almost shrink on the spot. “Because I hugged him”, I speak softly. I don’t want to sound scarred, hell he’s just being damn possessive again. I just don’t like to anger him either. “Look, Logan is my friend and I was just grateful that he took me to the library”, I add and he sighs, closing his eyes. “I’m sorry”, he mumbles softly, pulling me close again. This dude has some serious mood swings. “Just don’t dare to yell at me again”, I look him dead serious is the eye. “Promise”, he whispers and pulls me in his chest, resting his head on my shoulder.   For a while we just stayed quiet as he softly kept raking his finger trough my hair. “I really did miss you”, he says and pulls back a little to look at me. “Of course, who wouldn’t”, I say slyly and we just smile at each other. “I wan-“, he started but suddenly his face perks up and I see him take a big breath. His expression quickly turns sour and he looks down. “Rogues”, he mutters. “What’s wrong?” “There are wolves on my territory who shouldn’t be here”, he tells me and I see his eyes fog over. I’m pretty certain he’s mindlinking others. After a few seconds he focussed back on me and puts his hands on my shoulders. “Sweetheart, I need to go and fix this. Stay here and push a chair in front of the door, I’ll be back as quick as I can”, he says in all seriousness making me swallow. “Don’t worry, they’re just rogues. You’ll be okay”, he presses a kiss on my forehead and waits for a reaction. I quickly nod and he immediately sprints out of the office.   So I put a chair in front of the door, kept waiting in his office and looked outside to calm myself a bit. The sky was completely grey, raindrops slowly falling down from the sky. I looked at my arm as I felt drops fall on my arm only to realise the sky wasn’t the only one crying. I know it’s stupid to cry but I’m a stress cryer. At least the weather agrees with me.   I suddenly hear panicked knocking on the door, almost giving me a heart attack. “Miss Victoria, it’s urgent”, I hear a soft voice and I quickly pull the chair away from the door. I peeked through the door and I saw a short, young girl as she kept her eyes on the floor. “Miss Victoria, alpha told me to come get you”, she spoke softly but there was a slight panic in her voice. “Did something happen to him?” I immediately ask. “Alpha is fine, the rogues are just getting too close to the house. He told me to get you to him”, she spoke shyly and held her hand out for me to take. I quickly take it and follow her through the hallways. I just hope everyone is safe because there isn’t much I can do to help them. But what if something does happen? “What’s your name?” I ask the girl to keep my thoughts from going in bad directions. “Melissa”, she says and continues to pull me through the house, her grip tightening harshly as we make it to the main floor. “Melissa, can you slow down”, I push as her grip started to hurt but she just ignores me. I try to free myself from her but my eyes drift of to the tattoos on her arm. I can swear that I saw something like this before. I focus again and that’s when I finally see it. “You’re not a werewolf”, I say and she stops walking. She turns to me and the shy, innocent character from before was replaced by a stern and serious expression. “No, I’m not a werewolf  Victoria”
