It’s almost been two weeks since Alexander told me about werewolves and actually, things are going great. Everybody is super nice and polite, they would even bow their head when I just pass by. Logan and Amélie made sure to make me feel welcome and introduced me to many people like Alexander’s younger brother Louis, who I had already seen at my house or Logan’s sister Jill, who was just a spitting image of her brother. I also met the beta Chris, Amélie’s best friend Veronica and Alexander’s fourth Ashton, who’s Jill’s mate. Those two are so adorable together. They’re literally the packs ‘it’ couple and it always makes me wonder if that’s what Alexander and I are supposed to be like.
Speaking of Alexander, he did stay true to his promise and gave me some space for a few days. He’s even been sleeping in another room. After that, he casually started spending time with me and randomly took me places, I’d almost say that his presence has become tolerable. Apart from us teasing and annoying each other, I really did enjoy his company when he wasn’t being overly touchy or possessive. I do still feel nervous whenever he is close but I really appreciated that he focused on getting to know me rather than constantly ramming me into walls.
Right now I’m on my way to his office to go annoy him like I have been for the past few days since he wont give me my phone back. Even though I’d mainly go there for that reason, I also went there because his presence really helped me get used to all the new things here. I would just fight with him first and then I would just go sit on one of his couches to read, nap or talk with him when he wasn’t too busy. He even seemed to enjoy my visits as well as he always starts smiling every time he sees me entering his office.
I approach his office and see he left the door open. It seems my visits are becoming a bit predictable…
As I go stand in the doorway, I see him leaning against his desk with his back facing me while he speaks to someone on the phone. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t noticed me yet since he just continues to talk.
Even if you just look at him from behind, you’d still see how handsome he actually is… His pretty blond locks to his broad shoulders to his incredible muscular back to his cute ass…
“Matthew, it’s already happening. We can’t go into this unprepared” My father’s name immediately grabs my attention.
“I know, I thought we could keep her out of it too but I saw her eyes when they challenged her. It’s happening whether we want it or not”, he speaks in the phone, clearly frustrated. What are they hiding from me this time.
“Well who’s fault is that. This isn’t my story to tell, you should have just told her a long time ago”, he finishes and I see his shoulders tense up. He turns around and his eyes meet mine in an instant.
“Is that my that dad?” I ask and make my way over to him with small steps. He calmly nods and rests a hand on my shoulder as I stand in front of him. Dad better be ready for some explaining because as I lately noticed, this man has been lying to me about quite a few things. I took the phone, which he held out to me, his other hand still holding on to my shoulder.
“Hey dad”
“Victoria? How are you? Your mother and I we- ”, my dad starts rambling but I cut him off.
“Dad, what were you talking about? What’s happening?”
“Nothing sweetie, everything is fine” Of course he would say that.
“Stop lying to me dad. I’m sick of you and mom lying to me. Werewolves, me being a mate to an alpha or people wanting to hurt me. I need to know these things”, I say and look up to see Alexander looking at me. He was honest and always answered my questions. When I had asked him why he needed me here to protect me, he had told me dangerous people were after me but he didn’t know who. When I had asked him about the accident, he told me it had been a rogue wolf who had bumped the car of the road. When I had asked him how he met me, he told me he had seen me when he was in my town for business a year ago. Alexander had been nothing than honest with me when my parents weren’t.
I felt Alexander wipe away a tear that was trailing down my cheek and the little gesture made me feel butterflies all over. How can this man make me feel better by doing literally nothing?
“Just tell me dad. I’m not a child anymore”, I push as he had remained silent.
“It’s about my family…”
“How? You always told us we didn’t have any living relatives left” He has to be kidding right?
“We have a big family Victoria, it was just safer this way”, he mutters lowly and I feel like somebody slapped me in the face. I do have a family? How could they lie about things like that? Always teaching us to be sincere and honest when they keep stuff like that from us…
“Wait? Did Alexander know?” I say as I look up. I take a few steps back from the alpha and see a panicked expression on his face.
“Yes” So he did lie to me earlier. Great…
“But why would my family bring me in danger. That doesn’t make any sense”, I ask and turn to look out the window. We’re in his office on the fourth floor so I have a pretty good overview of all the people just normally living their lives.
“I know and I will explain everything in a few weeks. Alexander arranged a house only an hour away so we’ll be a lot closer to you”, he tries to change the subject.
“That's great dad. I just hope you’ll be honest with me from now”, I say. I might me mad at them but I do miss them like crazy. I’ve never been away from my family for longer than a week.
“We will. I have to go now darling, I have to go pick up your mother”
“Okay, by dad. Give mom and Jake a hug from me” I tell him as I start to feel more and more homesick.
“I will, be safe” He ends the call. I immediately release a sigh and put my arms around me. This all had been a lot easier for me if everyone had just been honest from the beginning…
“Are you mad at me again?” Alexander asks and I turn to him. He’s again leaning against his desk, his face void of any expressions. That’s one thing I learnt about him. His face may sometimes not reveal it but his body language always shows how his feeling. Like now, he’s impatiently playing with his fingers which tells me his probably worried.
“Take me to the packs diner for some food and I’ll think about it”, I say, trying to sound angry, and raise one of my brows. He did lie to me but like he said, this wasn’t really his story to tell. This is something between me and my family. So I’m not really mad, but he doesn’t need to know that yet.
“Let’s go”, he smiles and stretches his hand out to me. So far for me acting angry, he just saw right through me.
But this ass still lied to me though…
“Nope”, I say and carefully slap his hand away. He gives me a confused look and I motion for him to turn around. Eventually he does and before he can ask anything I jump on his back.
“You get to carry me there for lying”, I laugh and I feel him relax from my little surprise attack.
“Gladly, sweetheart”, he answers and hooks his hands under my thighs, holding me up.
“You’re not supposed to enjoy this, you i***t”
“Fine, whatever you want grumpy”, he says, smirking and starts walking with me on his back.
On the way there we bumped into Amélie and Logan and I asked them to join us since Logan had been gone for a week for pack business. Alexander didn’t like them coming though since he’s been sulking and pouting up until now. In the diner, Amélie and Logan sat on the other side of the table and Alexander sat beside me. He hasn’t been saying anything and just continues to stare outside with his arms crossed.
“Can you stop whining now, you’re supposed to look like the alpha”, Amélie starts after the waitress put down our food.
“Shut up Amélie, you guys just shoul-“ I stop his rambling by putting a few of my fries in his mouth. I just want a calm lunch… He immediately stops and starts munching on the fries while still glaring at Amélie.
“Anyway, I was going to the mall later. Wanna join? “, she turns to me and takes a big sip of her milkshake. Finally… I’m sick of just staying in or around the house.
“She can’t”, Alexander stated, not making any eye contact with the two of us.
“What? Why is that?” I ask him while he sighs and turns to me. I know he wants to protect me and all but this is ridiculous.
“I have a meeting later Victoria and I’m not going to let you go alone with the seventeen year old”, he tries to explain but my eyes focus on his face now he is sitting so close. He looks really tired now that I look at him…
“What’s that supposed to mean huh?” Amélie asks him accusingly but Logan motions for her to stay out of the conversation, which she eventually does.
“Still, I could go with Logan or with one of the other guys. We’d be totally safe”
“I know that sweetheart but it’s just that my wolf and I become restless when you’re not close” He runs his face in his hands and eventually looks up giving me a pleading look.
“But I want to go outside”, I say like a kid throwing a tantrum.
“And I want you close to me” I can’t imagine what people must be thinking right now. We look like two kids arguing over nothing.
“Can’t I just go this once, we’ll be real quick”, I try again.
“No Victoria, I mean it. Maybe later when I-“, he looks at his ringing phone and lets out yet another sigh.
“I’ll be right back” I just glare at him and angrily cross my arms. He stands up and leaves the three of us alone. I look back at the two in front of me and Amélie is giving me a look I can’t quite decipher.
“What?” I ask her confused.
“Even though he’s being an overprotective ass, you guys do look cute when you fight”, Amélie tells me excitingly.
“Really now?” She’s been telling me her brother and I look cute together whenever she can and it pisses me off. Literally all we do is argue. It might not always be serious but still…
“Just stating the facts…”, she shrugs and leans back in her chair.
“It’s just hella annoying that he doesn’t let me leave the house without him”
“He’s just doing this to protect you, Tori. Almost everything he does is for you”, Logan interrupts us.
“I know he’s protecting me and all but he’s constantly busy with his pack business” He just laughs and shakes his head like I just said the stupidest thing ever.
“He’s constantly busy because he wants the pack in it’s best shape so nothing could possibly touch you. When he’s not busy doing that, he’s taking you out and trying to make you feel happy. When you had told him vanilla reminded you of your home because you’re mother used to light scented candles, he drove two hours to the closest town just to get you vanilla candles. You know he’s even been sleeping in his office to give you some space, right?” His words really leave me speechless. I know about the mate thing, but it still feels so weird that a person I’ve known, for not even an month, would do all that for me…
“WHAT? Why would he do that? There are like a hundred other rooms in the house”, I ask him completely baffled.
“He’s really attached to his spaces. His room is the only space he will sleep well in”, Logan answers me.
“Why would he leave the room to me then?”
“Because he really cares for you, silly” Amélie smiles at me and I just look back down at my food.
After a while Alexander sits back down again and starts eating the rest of his food.
“I still wanna go outside though”, I say with a big pout, probably sounding like a little child.
“How about this?” He puts his food down and turns his body to me.
“Tomorrow, I’ll take you out for a date?” he asks me and for the first time in a while, I see his eyes go a little darker again.
“A date? As in a real date?” I should have seen this coming though with the mate thing, but I didn’t. Sure we hung out a lot and I’d always feel the air go static when he’s near but that was always just in his office or here with others from the pack. My heart is almost coming out of my chest just because he mentioned the word date so how am I even supposed to survive a date itself?
“I’m not going to be able to pretend to be your friend forever, Victoria. I’ll go crazy…” He takes my hands in his and for a while I’m completely lost, I just get out one word.
“Okay…”
